BELGIAN CHOCOLATES
“You are quite bold, Mademoiselle.”
“I certainly hope so, Madame.” The villainess pointed a futuristic-looking gun at Estelle Freneau.
Bruce and Dick started to move, and the Chocolatier swerved and fired the gun.
Bruce pushed Dick to the floor, but the strands of chocolate ribbons snaked around their arms, tightening as they struggled.
“My, I didn’t know the Prince of Gotham was so gallant, but then, you’ve got a beautiful boy there.”
The villain’s boot heels clicked on the floor, her form-fitting suit accentuating every curve of her body. Dark hair peeked out from under the cowl.
“Now, Madame, the money, please. And some of your finest chocolates, exquisite as they are.”
The Frenchwoman looked at Bruce and Dick, then emptied the till and placed the money and several chocolates in two bags, handing them over.
“Very good, Madame. A pleasure doing business with you.” The Chocolatier bowed and left the shop.
“Oh, Monsieur Bruce!” Estelle came over quickly and helped him and Dick out of their bindings.
“These aren’t chocolate,” Dick observed. “They’re very strong silk.” He rubbed his thumb over the material. “I wonder if she uses bullets at all?”
“So far, no. Madame, we must go. Tell Commissioner Gordon that we’ll be down to the station to give our statements.”

Batman and Robin gave chase, but the Chocolatier was long gone.

“Damn, she’s slippery,” said Barbara, sitting in a comfortable overstuffed chair in the Wayne living room. Bruce and Dick were on the couch, Dick’s elbow resting on Bruce’s shoulder, legs tucked up underneath him.
Barbara smirked. Dick can never sit conventionally.
“So far she’s stuck to the high-end chocolate shops,” Bruce said.
“A pattern, but will it continue?” Dick asked.
Barbara crossed her legs. “She’s honing her craft.”
Alfred appeared with a tray of tea and dark chocolates. Barbara squealed in delight.
“Did you get these at Madame Freneau’s?”
“Yes, we went back after losing the Chocolatier’s trail.” Bruce took a chocolate, savoring the lemon-filled flavor.
“Diana would say that chocolate is food for the Gods,” Dick said. He picked out a piece of chocolate and popped it into his mouth. “Mmm, Bruce, Belgian chocolate is the best.”
“Of course.” Bruce’s smile was smug, Dick lightly punching his shoulder.
“Sir, if I may?” Alfred said.
“Yes, Alfred, what is it?” Bruce looked very relaxed as Dick snuggled up against him, a mischievous look on the younger man’s face.
“Do you think that this new villainess might be after the mold of Wayne Manor?”
“I don’t know. It was right there in Estelle Freneau’s shop and yet she didn’t touch it. Still, it would be difficult to carry by herself. Maybe she will target it. There’s been publicity on the upcoming charity auction, and it’s going to be featured at the exhibit in the Convention Center next week.”
“She’s going to stick to the shops, I’d guess, to establish her bona fides, and then will go for the big splash!” Barbara said.
“We have a week to prepare,” Bruce said as he leaned forward. Dick pushed him back.
“We have a week,” Dick said firmly. “Now, chocolates.” He popped one into Bruce’s mouth, nuzzling his ear, and Barbara smirked.
