He moved
Like light
Itself,
Glittering,
Graceful,
Gay.

Elusive,
Like the wind,
Like joy
Borne on the air.

Slipping
Through your fingers,
Ribbons of light
Sparkling-elusive.

A pixie
Scattering
Stardust,
His laugh
Like silver
Bells.

Try and grab
A fistful of glitter
And draw him
To you
With a smile.

"O, Christmas Tree!"

Bruce put his briefcase on the hall table. Well, threw it might be closer to the truth, but he restrained himself. Alfred would have his head if he scratched the wood.

It had been a helluva day: insipid socialites, bickering board members, and pompous paparazzi. He had lived his whole life in front of cameras. Little wonder the Bat suited him. Melting into the shadows was a good thing at times.

Bruce sighed. Well, he was home now. There would be Alfred’s homemade gingerbread and perhaps a warm fire in the library grate.

He started to walk down the hall toward the library when he paused by the living room entrance. The great Christmas tree sparkled in the light of the sun streaming in through the windows, and reflected the firelight from the fireplace.

And sitting cross-legged on the couch reading a book was Dick.

Wearing a remnant of gold garland around his neck.

Bruce almost laughed. His boy’s love of glitter would never cease to amuse him.

Immediately Bruce felt immeasurably better. He entered the living room and asked, “Done with finals?”

Dick looked up with a smile. “Hi, Bruce. Yeah, Gotham U. is closing down for Christmas break tomorrow after the last final, and my last one was this morning. I’m as free as a bird!” His eyes twinkled as he winked, laughing as Bruce rolled his eyes.

Bruce sat down on the couch next to his young lover, brushing a lock of hair from Dick’s eyes, amused at finding a scrap of tinsel in the blue-black locks.

Dick was wearing dark-green sweatpants, a red sweater, and the gold garland. He was sitting down but seemed to sparkle with energy.

Bruce felt warmed by more than the fire.

“You’re beautiful,” he whispered, caressing Dick’s hair.

Dick smiled, turning his head and kissing Bruce’s palm. He leaned forward and they kissed, Bruce’s arms going around Dick and pulling him close.

Dick smelled faintly of patchouli, an exotic scent that always made Bruce think of his lover’s Gypsy blood. He smiled to himself. All Dick needed was a gold earring in one ear to complete the picture.

“Are you happy, Bruce?” Dick whispered in his ear.

“Ecstatically.”

Dick nestled into the curve of his lover’s arms, curling his legs up to fit more comfortably. Snow began to fall outside as the fire crackled in the fireplace.

Bruce remembered the first Christmas he’d shared with Dick here at the Manor. Despite how difficult it had been for the young boy on his first Christmas without his parents, he had managed to exude excitement and good cheer. He had handled things so much better than Bruce in the same situation.

His gaze fell on a ballerina ornament, one of the Grayson family’s heirloom baubles. It danced among the branches and glitter, so much like Dick himself.

He saw the delicate glass ball that his mother had bought one year, the old pain jabbing him sharply. It would never completely go away, this pain of losing his parents, but Dick understood, and while Bruce was terrified of losing Dick someday, he knew that he had to take the good times and grab onto them and hold on for dear life. Dick had taught him that. Bruce would grab a fistful of the glitter that was Dick Grayson and hold on, for very dear life.

“I love you, Bruce.”

Dick turned to look at his lover with shining eyes. Warm lips pressed against Bruce’s.

This young man had been a shining young boy exuding the spirit of Christmas and bringing the spirit back to Bruce.

Now, as his lover, he brought a different kind of joy, but just as sparkling.

He laughed as he kissed Dick’s neck and the garland tickled his nose.
