Clark and Bruce lay in the afterglow of sex in their bed, savoring the moment.
“Clark?”
“Hmm?”
“Is that how you feel? The surrender?”
Clark raised his head and rested it on his elbow. “Some of it’s like that.”
“I understand there’s a difference.”
Clark nodded as he traced his fingers over Bruce’s bare chest. “There is. You don’t have to stay a slave tomorrow.”
Bruce looked steadily at Clark. No punches pulled here. Truth.
“But don’t feel badly, Bruce. I don’t want to be a slave, but I’m not going to bury my head in the sand. A slave is what I am, and will be, until the day comes when all are freed.” Bruce’s gaze was still steady. “You would free me, and Alfred, and Dick, if you could. That means a lot to us, Bruce, more than you can know.”
“It’s the least I can do.”
Clark took hold of his hand and brushed his lips over the knuckles. “I know you feel guilty, Bruce. You think you should have spoken up sooner or more forcefully against slavery. Maybe, but society is heavily weighted against speaking out. But you have spoken out now.”
Bruce kissed the palm of Clark’s hand. “I know it’s different, but the surrender…it’s exciting and peaceful, all at the same time. Does that make any sense?”
Clark smiled. “Perfectly.” He settled back on his elbow again. “I know it sounds crazy, but surrendering to you in shackles is…freeing…”
Bruce traced a finger along Clark’s cheek. “It’s because you trust me not to hurt you.” Clark’s eyes were very blue. “Because that’s how I felt when I surrendered to you.”
Clark smiled and leaned down to kiss Bruce.
“Mmm.” Bruce’s eyes sparkled. “I trust you not to hurt me.”
“Even with the paddle?”
Bruce laughed, “Even with.” He paused. “Though not too much.”
Clark smiled at his lover’s wink. He curled up around Bruce, who still wore his collar and manacles. “I learned a lot about how to balance us in Master/slave mode on Jovara.”
“Really?”
“Uh huh.” Clark rested his head on Bruce’s chest. “I learned that being a pleasure slave can be a position of honor, at least within the parameters of the manacled. The Jovarans consider slaves of pleasure to be skilled in more than the arts of the bedroom, but whatever the case, Ja’zels are considered intelligent and artistic, not just whores.”
“You’ve never been that to me.”
“I know.” Clark stroked Bruce’s stomach.
Bruce ran his fingers through Clark’s silky hair. “You seem at peace with all this, love.”
Clark smiled. "I suppose I am. I know I'm lucky compared to so many in my situation. I'll always fight for freedom, but I can take what's dealt to me and enjoy the love I'm privileged to share with you."
Bruce smiled. “You may get more chances at role reversal, too.”
“Oh?” Clark lifted his head, his eyes twinkling.
“Yes. I think that a little role reversal is healthy.” His teasing smile grew wistful. “It’s nice to give up responsibilities for awhile. You know, with someone you can trust.”
Bruce’s eyes met Clark’s, and Clark leaned down for a kiss.
“Whenever you want to play, I’m here.”
Bruce smiled as he wiggled beneath Clark, and they both laughed.
