Hello. I am a new member to the community and although I am not yet a Braille user / reader, I hope to be soon. I am currently setting up some equipment for Braille production and trying to learn Braille. I was wondering if anyone had some favorite sites either about Braille, learning Braille, Braille theory, or on Louis Braille himself. My ( Read more... )

Welcome to the community. :) I'm currently taking the course to become a certified transcriber (in Canada), and am also visually impaired myself so although I use primarily large print, I also read braille tactually.

As for some good sites, www.brl.org has a ton of material for learning braille (you'll have to download braille fonts from the Duxbury site to see a lot of it), and www.duxburysystems.com has a lot of useful information on braille production, as does www.nbp.org.

Thanks! I have been thinking about taking a course myself. I am going to start with brl.org and then check out some courses in my area.

www.techadapt.com. Be warned, buy the equipment after you have some experience. It's not an instant career!

Hi brailler, this is really off-topic, but I'm just curious where you're from? I noticed in your user info you've got BC listed as an interest. Are you from BC? If so, I wonder if I know you (in "real life") ... heh.
