Sending things Free Matter can take weeks to get to where it's supposed to go, as it's treated the same as Parcel Post. I don't fold my letters, I put them in large envelopes with a sheet of cardboard with "Braille, Do Not Fold" on the outside. And if you address the letter in Braille, there is very little chance that it will get anywhere, postal employees are mostly sighted. Best of luck! Congratulations on learning Braille!

Thanks for the tips :-) I know I have to write the address on the envelope, but I didn't know if I should put it in Braille also? It makes sense to if a completely blind person is recieving it, but then there's trying to use an envelope with a slate, and will the braille be useful by the time it gets there (as in, will the raised portions get crushed in the mail and be unreadable?).

You could always put the name in braille on the envelope using Braillabels. American Thermoform has them for $14.00 a packet of 12 sheets. The product is good for making braille business cards also.

then there's trying to use an envelope with a slate

What I did once is Braille the address on a normal piece of Braille paper, then cut out the part of the page that had the address and sticky-tape it to the envelope next to the address in handwriting.

That way, you don't have to stick the envelope in a slate.

I would just buy the bubble wrap type envelopes and write the address where it going to & put postage on it. But if you want to take the free postage route. I would first talk to your postal service person on how they would allow it.
