The Iraqi elections and what kind of propaganda they are being slapped with is an interesting topic and one I'd like to look into. *kicks self for not thinking of it myself*

You're right... unfortunately, the majority of Americans think that if Paris Hilton isn't talking about it, it isn't worth knowing. The society seems divided into two categories: Those who don't care, and those who have a brain stem. Sadly, the latter is in the minority.
