Would that be this Armsby Abbey? I wouldn't want anyone (or Google) to be confused about which Armsby Abbey has an owner who, lacking the stones to expel disruptive customers, refuses entrance to the well-mannered.

yep, that's the one. and by that post to the forum, it appears that their new site went live around March 24th, posting their no-infants policy, roughly four days before we went. I suppose then bad on me for not checking their website just before going. Feh.

On the one hand, I'm kind of thrilled to locate a known child-free establishment.

On the other, I've been there, and their food kind of sucks (extremely expensive, small quantities, and the kicker $7 peanut butter & jelly sandwich -- I paid what for this?) such that even with the "hooray-no-screaming-children-ever" factor won't bring me back. So there are your sour grapes. ;-)

I would respect their policy more if it was no kids after 6pm thus giving the place kid-free time but still not antagonizing parents who will now never go there even if they do not have the kids in tow.

Well I guess I won't be checking craigslist anymore looking for an opening there.

They should definitely post and promote their policy so that people can clearly read it before entering or planning to go there. I don't find it surprising though that they don't see an intersection between the Slow Food mission statement and whether or not any particular establishment is family friendly... Slow Food isn't about families, it's about promoting slow food.

One of the aspects of Slow Food is about teaching children about Slow Food. That's right there in the mission statement. It's also about sitting down with your big Italian family and having a nice, long meal. I agree that it's not all about families, or even largely about them, but there is a certain facet of it that is.
But, I know not to argue with you on the internet, for that is folly. :-)

Although they certainly do have the right to refuse entry to anyone aged 0-20.9999 because they serve alcohol, they should certainly make this policy clear so folks like you don't waste their time to make arrangements to go there.

Tom's telling of this story on Sunday was amusing and painted a good picture of your righteous rage.

Suckage.
