demands fulfilled, IT'S TERRITORY FIGHT TIMEshiningmagicaOctober 8 2011, 17:53:53 UTC
[It's patrol time again. And honestly, patrols suck. Poniko would be quite content if, for the rest of her life, the witches would just come to her. But no, things are never that easy, and so she is out and about with her soul gem in her hand, following its pull.
But she's feeling something...different. It's a familiar sort of power, without a doubt, but it doesn't have the same malevolence a witch's presence would bring.
Poniko freezes when it hits her. It's another soul gem.
She can't remember the last time there was another Puella Magi in the area-she felt another soul gem once, a long time ago, but its owner seemed to have just disappeared. But this one is so much nearer...
This is her territory, though. And she isn't going to let anyone invade it. Sharing grief seeds? There can't be enough to go around.
The girl sighs and holds her soul gem out in front of her. This time, she could care less about the witches-there's another Magi to find.]
LET'S DO THIS. *chugs energy drink*dreamingmagicaOctober 8 2011, 18:16:06 UTC
[ Grief Seeds have become harder to come part in her area of Mitakihara. It was getting to the point where relying on her small stock of emergency Grief Seeds wasn't cutting it. She'd only dared to use each one three times before feeding them to Kyuubey, for fear of reviving the witch that it had once been a part of. And the wait between battles didn't help the slow darkening of her Soul Gem.
So Madotsuki had taken a risk and wandered into a section of Mitakihara outside her territory. She knew there was another Puella Magi here, she could feel the gentle pull of her Soul Gem but with any luck, she'd manage to grab a few Grief Seeds before having to fight for her life. Puellae Magi were a territorial sort. Well, the others were; Madotsuki wasn't the confrontational type. She'd been forced out of her territory several times, only returning when the other Puellae Magi vanished.
There. A Witch's barrier, in the alley. Hesitating, she peeked into the darkened alley, entire body tensed up. ]
WE'RE MAKING THIS HAPPENshiningmagicaOctober 8 2011, 18:56:18 UTC
[There, that way. Poniko felt a witch but brushed it off. There was enough light in her soul gem, it could wait. It took her a moment, though, to realize that the pull of the witch's strength and the uneasy sense of the other soul gem were coming from the same place.
The last place she wanted to be starting conflict was inside the barrier itself; too many variables, too many chances to mess up. She would if she had to, but ideally she would just be able to find the other Magi outside it. But she'd have to act fast, and so Poniko sprinted after the power's pull.
And there she was. Even if she didn't look the part-brown hair, braided pigtails, staring into the alleyway that was definitely the door to the witch's barrier like a squirrel looking up at an incoming car-that was without a doubt where the energy was coming from.
No problem.]
Hey!
[Poniko bolted forward once she caught the other girl's attention and sidestepped her way in front of the brunette, blocking her way into the alley. But she smiled brightly as she did so, if

[ Madotsuki staggers back at the appearance of the blonde Puella Magi. She'd been too busy concentrating on the witch's barrier to notice the energy of the other Soul Gem approaching fast. She plants her feet into the ground and does her best to look less terrified than she actually is. It probably isn't working at all, and Madotsuki can't help but swallow hard. Just... relax. Act amiable. Don't pose a threat and she won't hurt you. ]
Ah-- I was just-- um-- I thought I'd see what kind of witches were in this territory, that's all.
[ Oh lord. Madotsuki mentally facepalms at herself, forcing a smile to her face. The other girl looks like a much more powerful Puella Magi than herself; if the two fight, Madotsuki isn't entirely sure that she'll be able to escape unscathed, even with her illusions. ]
SHIT'S GON' GO DOWNshiningmagicaOctober 8 2011, 19:25:49 UTC
Oh, really? [That bright smile slowly fades and Poniko scowls slightly, suddenly looking a little less willing to cooperate than before.] Let me explain something to you.
[She takes her soul gem and transforms in an instant, and it's no more than a quick glow and an outfit change-no need to be flashy here.] The thing about 'this territory' is that it doesn't belong to you. And you'll learn fast that we Puella Magi... [Poniko holds out her hand and with another quick flash of light, a lantern appears in it. Not the most threatening-looking weapon, but she's hoping that she's intimidating enough on her own.] ...we don't like to share territory.
DIS GAWN BE GOOOOOODdreamingmagicaOctober 8 2011, 19:36:51 UTC
[ Madotsuki is literally quaking in her boots. She honestly doesn't want a fight, especially with her Soul Gem in the state it is, but she's certainly isn't going to stand back and allow herself to be beaten up by a possessive Puella Magi. She quickly transforms, the brief flash of light illuminating the alley they're stood in. Almost instinctively, she brings four knives to her hand, each one between her fingers. ]
I--I don't want to fight. But I'm not going to stand back and let you attack me.
popcorn.gifshiningmagicaOctober 8 2011, 19:45:10 UTC
[The other girl's scared. For a moment, Poniko feels a twinge of sympathy-the poor girl must be a little younger than her, and maybe in any other situation, she'd seem...hopeful. And she's almost sure she's seen this girl at school before.
She won't kill her. Poniko's never killed anything but witches, and she isn't about to begin here. But she does intend to fight, just enough to scare her out of this territory.]
Pacifism won't get you anywhere in this world, deary! [The lantern glows, charging up for an attack and Poniko takes a few steps back to give it some room before a beam of light shoots out of it right at the other Magi.]
Re: popcorn.gifdreamingmagicaOctober 14 2011, 18:48:25 UTC
[ Only just barely suppressing the yelp of surprise that would have left her mouth otherwise, Madotsuki leaps back, brandishing the knives in the older Magi's direction. She definitely doesn't want to attack her, but that beam of light didn't look friendly at all. She blinks purple motes from her eyes and scrambles for cover, haphazardly tossing the handful of knives at Poniko before diving behind a dumpster that was camped out in the alley. But rather than stay, she squeezed her eyes closed and with a small flash, she created an illusion; one of herself still crouched there, while she tried to slip away, using an invisibility illusion. With any luck, it would hold until she could flee. ]
[Between the younger girl's inexperience and the light, the knives aren't any trouble for Poniko to avoid. Instead they stick into the wall behind her and she lunges towards the dumpster where she sees the other girl.] Don't think you can hi- [Except when she flings the lantern-an unusual but effective projectile-it just flies right through the brunette and lands with a dull thunk on the ground.
For only a quick beat, the other Magi hesitates, and then in a single swift motion she bounds forward and summons another lantern, then holds it out in front of her and lets it burst light forth in every direction. Worst comes to worst, she thinks, and she can trap the girl in darkness, too, and that would stall things enough to find her, but Poniko has never been very proud of that ability...]
yo so guess who's the worst canonmate ever. hint; me.dreamingmagicaDecember 6 2011, 20:11:51 UTC
[ Madotsuki's already fleeing away from Poniko when the other Puella Magi attacks the illusion. She's used to leaving those false Madotsukis behind and slipping away but she's forgotten one thing; her opponent this time is another Puella Magi and not a mindless Witch. So, when the light seems to bloom from every direction and almost scalds the girl's eyes, she's entirely unprepared.
She screams, dropping the invisibility illusion and staggers drunkenly, with an arm covering her streaming eyes. She can't see and her eyes feel as if they've been scorched from the inside out. ]
shoooosh you are my favoriteshiningmagicaDecember 6 2011, 21:31:53 UTC
[There! That blindness was more than Poniko expected to get out of that shot but she's glad to take the opportunity.] You know where your powers come from, at least. [This time she holds out the lantern and the single beam she shoots forth is more like a concentrated burst of energy. This is her offense; she's done playing around.] Your wish makes your powers-you've figured that out, right? [And then, without any hesitation, a second blast. Even if the girl can't see it just yet, Poniko is smirking.] That's what I did.
but I do not deseeeervedreamingmagicaDecember 10 2011, 19:08:24 UTC
[ The first blow from the lantern's energy sends her staggering back and the second makes her sit down hard on the ground with a thud. Her eyes are still streaming but she's beginning to be able to see again. Then an idea comes to her. Still feigning blindness, she manages to scramble to her feet, summoning another knife and holding it unsteadily in front of her. She's doing her best to stall without being too obvious; the longer she waits, the more her vision clears and she only has one chance to try this. ]
I--I see... what did you wish for?
[ She waits for a precious few moments, hoping her question had distracted the other Puella Magi -- and then she dives forward, and strikes the handle of the lantern with the blade of her knife as hard as she can. The scraping of the metal goes right through her and she cringes but she holds on, trying to drive the weapon out of Poniko's hands. ]
SHOOOOOSHHHshiningmagicaDecember 10 2011, 19:45:21 UTC
[It's enough-the question makes Poniko pause. Right here, she thinks, this girl is her enemy. She has intruded into her territory, she has to get her out. But...but she's a Puella Magi too. Really, she hasn't seen more than fleeting glimpses of other Magi, she's barely done more than felt the presence of their soul gems, and the way this other girl is bumbling around and being hit so easily, it...
Well, it reminds Poniko of herself.]
...I wished f-
[Before she can finish the statement, though, the girl has lunged and caught the older Magi off-guard. It doesn't take much for the lantern to fall and roll across the ground, further away from her.] You little-! [And she could just as easily summon another one, but as long as that lantern is still there it's still using up her magic, and having two of them out at once? That's asking for trouble, and it's not like she can get rid of it without it being closer to her. As hard as she can, she rams her elbow into the other girl in an attempt to stop her just long enough so that she can dive

[ The strike to her stomach nearly winds her and she gasps, staggering back. But when the other Puella Magi lunges for the weapon. She throws her hands out, summoning the rest of her knives before throwing several forward. The blades catch the hanging material of Poniko's sleeves and jerk her hand back, pinning it to the wall. Madotsuki rubs her stomach, panting hard for breath. ]
I don't want to fight you! I came here because -- there are no witches left in my territory, okay? I don't want to die!
*SHOOSHES BACK*shiningmagicaDecember 10 2011, 20:13:35 UTC
[Fuck! She's caught, pinned against the wall by her sleeves (whose stupid idea were these, again? Did no one give any thought to practicality here?) and she tries to wrench her arms free but she's stuck.
But...but the girl doesn't want to hurt her. Even before she shouts, the girl seems more worried about her own safety than even trying to touch Poniko again.
And she's so damned innocent.]
...None of us do, I guess. [She sounds almost defeated as she says it and even slumps a bit in place.] What...what's your name, kid?
[ Madotsuki hesitates, wondering briefly if her opponent is trying the same tactic she had earlier. It wouldn't be the first time that she's been outwitted by other Puella Magi but what has she got to lose? ]
M--Madotsuki. [ She relaxes a little, standing up properly rather than her ready-to-attack stance. ] What about you?
But she's feeling something...different. It's a familiar sort of power, without a doubt, but it doesn't have the same malevolence a witch's presence would bring.
