So, there’s actually been a lot going on lately, but I’ve been too lazy/preoccupied to journal about it. A large part of that is because of work, but even as much as I’ve been working, it hasn’t been nearly so much that I can’t take time out to write, and still have time to enjoy other leisurely pursuits. I’ve never been comfortable with the fervor with which many Christians cling to some of the more ridiculous stories of the Bible. In fact, I’m actually a little afraid of the Bible, and still haven’t read much of it. As I got older, I became more and more disgusted with the hatred and ignorance pouring out from the vocal extremes of my religion. But I always just let it pass, thinking that these were the people on the extreme, the outliers, the zealots, the likes of which you’d find in any faith, or anything else people believe in, like fandoms and politics.

Personally I think the Bible is awesome. It's this great big complex thing with so much information in it about the people who wrote it and all their hopes and fears. Which makes it really great to me, without needing to have God's Own Truth behind the words. Human truth is more than enough to keep me hooked.

I read about the significant contributions to the hate train made by The Church. And I decided that I could no longer support Christianity as an institution.I'm with you ( ... )
