Sooooooo it's actually taken me this long to recover from how amazing last night was, but now i'm finally in a reasonably calm state I shall jot down a few thoughts about what I think I can safely call one of my favourite gigs ever.
I wanted to get there like exceptionally early, this didn't happen, I was stood in the kitchen drinking cherryade with an excitable look on my face when my housemate was all "i'm just gunna cook some food then we can go" SIGH. Anyway she ate, I rushed her along, she complained about stomach pains due to eating too fast, but all of this is slightly irrelevant. Thought i'm building up to the main event, its called storytelling. Where was I, oh yeah this is the point where we made the notreallythatlongbutstilltoolong walk to uni, normally it takes me a good half an hour to get to uni on a morning, last night however I did the walk in 15 minutes, clearly the excitement of Ellie was too much for me. The queue was long, not exceptionally long, we were in a reasonable place and had a lovely chat with a policewoman about phone safety, I wasn't so impressed with the leaflet she gave me, I had to squeeze it in ma sparkly handbag cos I mean you can hardly drop a leaflet a policewoman has issued you with on the floor right in front of her can you?
Skip to getting inside, the floors delightfully sticky but the thing about UEA LCR is that its always sticky, and on a saturday night it smells like sick, little fact for you there, I advocate my university well. We found an awesome place to stand, the view was brilliant, which makes a change as i've spent most concerts at UEA standing behind a fat kid with B.O (i'm starting to think its the same fat kid each time, and that he has a conspiracy against me) the first band came on, and I can't even remember what they were called to be honest with you, they weren't bad, they weren't really anything just a bit blah. The place is slowly filling up, I insist to my friend that we stand strong and don't let any feckers move us from our awesome positions... I've had many a gig fight with pushers *mind flashes back to the infamous Alkaline Trio gig where I slapped a bitch down...* Anyhew.
So they finish and there's that inevitable gap where they play some crappy music and people move shit onto the stage, but then I recognise the guys on stage, Ellie's band and the excitement starts, my friend is desperately trying to calm me but IT'S TOO FREAKIN LATE THE LIGHTS HAVE GONE DOWN!!!!
So she's wearing like denim hotpant things, and a white floaty top type thing (which she later removes but more on that later) What did she play I hear you ask, jeez now I have to think back, ok she played a song I didn't know (clearly not the fan I thought lol) she played Salt Skin and The Writer which are two of my favourites from the album, she did This Love (will be your downfall), Everytime you go, this is where I get a little hazy and I can't remember because i'm sure there was another before the big two, anyway i'm a rubbish fan and I can't remember. I got really distracted by her bangy drum, seriously when she starts going at the drum its like *thud* I have no words to describe it, other than I wanted to BE that drum. The top, I said i'd come back to it, like a couple of songs in she was all "i'm way too hot" yes, yes you are and the white floaty thing came off and she had a fabulous sparkly vest top on underneath. She had an awesome moment where she told us that she'd only found out that day that she was number one in the album chart and she still looked pretty dazed by the whole thing. Yes Ellie you're amazing! I love watching her perform, seriously she's incredible to watch, she's always dancing, swaying her hips, when she hasn't got her guitar she's waving her arms around and she makes the cutest little faces when she's singing. Soooo where was I, oh yeah she played Under the Sheets and the place went feckin skitz, then that finished and she was all like, "last song" and then just made the little 'Starry eyed' hand action rather than actually say it which was a) adorable and b) sent everyone even wilder than before.
In conclusion. Ellie Goulding is AMAZING. i sent a text to my mother informing her that Ellie was in fact the best person i've ever seen live and will probably remain that forever more.
Waiting... Oh gawd between Ellie and Passion Pit there was a 45, yes 45 minute wait!! WTF?! I was too happy to give a shit but still 45 minutes is ridiculous.
Passion Pit, wowwww. I mean just wow, they were so energetic and everyone was dancing and it was so freakin feelgood, and I don't know if its cos I was still high on the cherryade but damn I loved it so much. I have an obsession with lights at concerts and the Passion Pit lights were freakin awesome, they'd probably give you an epileptic fit if you were that way inclined, but yeah so cool and just matched the awesome pace of everything. They congratulated Ellie on her number one album and dedicated a song to her, cuteness! They finished and we had to wait around for a bit for the encore, with the entire audience chanting 'Sleepyhead' cos obvs they all wanted to hear the Naomily sex tune, but they made us wait even longer cos they played to kingdom come first, and I had a brief moment of panic that they wouldn't play it, but then all was well and it kicked in, last song of the night, everyone bouncing and dancing and going wild and all I could think was feck this has been a good night.
Gots myself a Passion Pit t-shirt, and nicked a wonderful little postcard thingy of Ellie.
Went to Tescos on the walk home, bought a litre of banana milk, drank it. GOOD NIGHT!!
