I’ve struggled with sexuality since I was a kid. My first crush was on Jennifer Aniston when I was 7 yrs old. Of course at the time I simply thought it meant that I wished she was my ‘cool Aunt’ or something along that platonic vein. But I guess I first started really questioning my sexuality when I was about 14 years old. The popular girl in my ( Read more... )

It's good to hear you've come to terms with your sexuality and abandoned trying to classify it for the convenience of others.
Sexuality does seem like a struggle sometimes. More trouble than it's worth? Maybe not. But do you wonder if you'd use an 'off switch' if you had one?
I find it ironic that you've dealing with the issues in your personal life that I've been struggling with in the academic realm (studying philosophy and gender studies at uni). "This is your life and your world... Make it how you want to" is pretty much what Sartre was saying, and for most of today I've been banging my head against a wall trying to understand his ideas to prepare for my exam on Wednesday.
Have you ever read any Foucault? You might find him interesting.
Anyway, it's nice you've found some peace and closure :)

I've read some Foucault for my course, actually. His theories on sexuality are very interesting.
Thanks for reading :-)

We're quite similar. I've always struggled with my sexuality, and I still am. It's utterly impossible for me to fit into a label because I don't even what my sexuality is.

exactly. I really think labels in general are completely useless when it comes to sexuality. It's something so unique and fluid and it can't be and needn't be pinned down.
