I survived the 8-kilometer race!  Go me.  I finished in about 47 1/2 minutes, which is a little faster than I'd expected to go.  I'm still a bit tired, but not too sore, which is good, as we strike our final production in the middle of the night tonight.  Boo night-time strikes ( Read more... )

Boo night-time strikes.

I can beat that: how 'bout a night-time load-in, followed by 3 or 4 hours of sleep, then doing the show (acting and managing props), then striking. All in 14 hours or so.

But yeah, I bet night-time strikes suck, because no one has the energy to go out after. Among other reasons, of course.

What bothers me most about late-night strikes isn't the cramping of my social style - beer can happen at most hours of the day or night, and shouldn't be stopped by a late strike. (That said, I'm probably not going to have a beer tonight - it's been a long day, and I'm a little uncomfortable about drinking with my students.)
Really, the worst part of it is that I'm responsible for these people. If they make bad decisions because they're tired, and someone gets hurt, I'm responsible. That's a spooky thing.
Well, and also, I'm no longer a night person. Staying up late is not my idea of a good time anymore. My students are probably more comfortable with the hours than I am, really. I still worry about them, thoguh.
