ok...i hope im the first, but there are probably 4 in queue already.
Brand New = incredible, simply as expected.
The Boston fans = fuck you.
with that out of the way...
colour revolt- this was my first real introduction to them. (could someone tell me the name of the song they opened with as well as the final 2?)
they had a very intriguing style, and definitly left a good taste in my mouth... and thats before what happened at the end.
id read about jesse & vinnie appearing with them at previous shows, but i never could have imagined that. the second i saw the grey hooded man walk on stage i knew something was going down, and holy shit. jesse screaming..vinnie on trumpet.. roary with luchador mask slam dancing & fuckin up the drum kit, and colour revolt playing the most intense 3-5 minutes of music ive ever experienced (sans sigur ros, because thats just a different level)
men women & children - why do people have such a hard time enjoying this? lighten up and stop worrying about taking everything so seriously. theyre there to have fun and to allow you to have fun in a way that most shows these days dont. but i was highly entertained by their performance... dance in my blood was as good as i could have imagined. and the bubbles, oh the bubbles!
i also spoke to the drummer & keyboardist at the merch booth- very cool guys.
ok.. Brand New. probably the longest and most painful intermission ive faced. but well worth it. all day id been listening to, and watching live videos of Yeah... i just happened to wake up this morning and have a ridiculous craving for it, and they certainly did not let me down as they played that second to Tautou. the intensity, the excitement just everything... they did not fail me a bit.
correct me if im wrong, which im more than likely to be, but the setlist included..and in no real order:
tautou
yeah
jaws theme
guernica
quiet things
untitled 6
spin light
boy who blocked his own shot
me vs maradona vs elvis
no seatbelt song
soco
shower scene
-
take apart your head
sic transit
70x7
play crack the sky
jesse and vinnie did the guitar battling following no seatbelt song. i stood in awe, jaw dropped and all for the full 7 minutes or so? it was incredible. much unlike many around me i took in every last second and note for what it was worth.
i noticed that there were a lot of people getting away with taking pictures with digital cameras and suck... while my friend who was upstairs noticed that people were getting their phones taken away. there was one girl directly in front of me.. on the barricade camera in hand, and not a single bouncer said a thing (not that i saw at least).
and secondly.. does ANYONE have a picture from maradona while the disco ball was in full effect? i just kinda stood in awe at how amazing it looked.
but yeah.. the crowd. what the hell? i never could have imagined that hearing Play Crack The Sky, my absolute favorite song, could be such a bad experience. fuckin douchebags yelling to their friends, and just dumb banter among everyone. Jesse was obviously pissed. he was solo on electric for this which surprised me, and prior to the final verse, he extended the strumming and just started going harder and harder.. bascially saying shut the fuck up and no one wanted to listen. by then he obviously wanted to just get off the stage.
id already made my way to the back by now after the furstration just needing to get out of there.
but come on guys.
and if youre going to sing along.. you should not be projecting your voice to the point where others around you cannot hear the artist on stage. i paid my money to see jesse brian vinnie and garrett (and apparently a 3rd guitarist). i paid to hear them play. i did not pay to hear the guy next to me with the loud monotone out of tune voice kill something special. gah.. i was rather annoyed.
but i probably sound like i was too angry to have anoyed the show by this point of the review.. but really not. this was my 3rd time seeing them, and each time has been something totally different, absolutely for the best.
lets just say i already cannot wait for tomorrows show. wahoo
