Applesauce and parenting.

First thing's first, I just made homemade crockpot applesauce and it is THE most delicious thing I have ever tasted in my life. It's nothing but plain, unpeeled apples and a little cinnamon but it SO sweet and fresh and delicious tasting. I'm eating it hot out of the crockpot so I hope it tastes as good after I've refrigerated the leftovers. Why ( Read more... )

glad you LOVE alfie kohn too! when i read that book, i was blown away. i felt like the "scales had fallen" from my eyes, you know? i suddenly saw EVERYTHING differently, and it all made so much more sense. for example: why is our generation so listless and without direction, even though we were given every advantage? hello, too much praise! i plan to reread that book at least once a year, along with a few others that feel as pivotal to me. have you read "how to talk to kids" yet? it's a great accompaniment -- more specifics, but many of the same principles.

I haven't read "How to talk to kids" yet but it's on my list! Did you read Playful Parenting? That's the one that looks like it's going to come into my library next (my stupid library has nothing so I have to get all the books from surrounding towns haha) and I'm wondering how you felt it compared in terms of following the same general concepts as UP.

loved that one too! when you're done with those, you might also enjoy "raising our children; raising ourselves." i think those four make up my annual reread list. i actually bought copies of all of them (after i'd read them) just so i'd have them available, and so that MAYBE casey would SOMEDAY have time to read them too.

Ah yes I'm REALLY hoping that Chris will scrape up the time/motivation to read UP after I'm done with it - I feel like he instinctively agrees with this kind of parenting when I bring it up but his logical mind really needs someone to break down the thought process and show him some facts, which Alfie Kohn definitely does. I think he'll really like it if I can get him to start it!

I'm so glad you have time to read again! Maybe I will start to read parenting books so we can have book discussions haha. They do sound interesting!
