Body parts.

So Mayah knows every part of her face and several other body parts, and I had pretty much no idea until today. She'll accurately point to her nose, eyes, ears, hair, belly, fingers, and feet when asked, as well as other peoples' facial features. I was so shocked today when I asked her "Where are your eyes?", intending on SHOWING her where her ( Read more... )

I agree, it's pretty amazing how well they soak up everything and how much more they know than we're aware ( ... )

I completely agree with you, I think people miss a lot of what their kids are actually understanding and processing by not providing those opportunities for kids to problem solve or answer their own questions. The "what do you think?" is like getting a peek inside their little minds, so awesome. We're not at that point with Mayah yet because she's only 13 months but I'm right there with you on the concept!

you'll be there soon! ;) I don't remember, do you do sign language?
I'm sure Dax was younger than 18 months when he asked me what the logs at the side of the street were when we went for a walk. He asked by pointing and signing "what?"
I told him they were trees that were cut... and he looked at nearby trees, then back to the logs, and responded by signing "apple" and "knife" because he'd seen me use a knife to cut his apples many times.
The "conversation" left me stunned. By the time they're 12 months old, babies understand something like 80-90% of what we say, but it's hard to imagine because they don't communicate much themselves yet.

I don't think Aias knows that stuff. Too blonde, maybe? I sort of like when people make their kids perform too, haha.

Jonathan did the same thing. I thought he only knew where his nose was for the longest time. Then one day I asked him where his eyes where and we just kept going from there. He pointed correctly to every body part I asked him to with zero prompting on my part. Blew me away. I was so surprised. But it was way later than 13 months though! Whenever I try to get Jonathan to show off a new "trick" he never does it anyways. So backfire and I don't attempt to anymore. lol!

I hate it when people make their kids perform too. My uncle still does this and his kids are 21 and 23!

I am excited to see your dairy free meal plan! I need more dairy free recipes.
