Why can't things in life be more obvious?

I'm pretty depressed but instead of writing how depressed I am...I am going to write a bit about the choices I have which is causing me confusion, and aggravation which is making me depressed.

Most people know I'm kind of rock stuck in a hard place right now. I don't have a job, my job prospects are iffy, I am out of unemployment, and I have zero ( Read more... )

argh, complaining

I think bloom has the most pluses for you. Even though it's a 'party' school, not everyone parties. Kelly did her stint up there, so if you have any actual questions about it, she can probably fill you in. I'm sure there will be ppl around to D&D and whatnot with :) not to mention everyone's just an internet button and phone call away :)

good luck with whichever you choose!

I definitely think going back to school is probably your best bet. Having an extra set of skills to fall back on certainly can't hurt, and it's probably the best thing for you in the long run.

I wouldn't go for programming, though, unless you really, really think you'll want to make a career out of it. In which case, I might be able to help you get started, or at least recommend some things you can look into that'll help you.

The downside to this, though, is JET Programme... if you really wanted to do JET (which would be the best way to save up some money and ensure 1-3 years of total financial stability, while experiencing something new and different at the same time), going back to school might forestall that, since it'd be kinda weird for you to go back to school now, then go off to JET after not even a full year of classes.

The question is, what would you do *until* JET, in that case?

You could always apply to work at a conversation school in Japan. They're not great, but they're a good way to "freeze time" a bit (i.e. make money without much worry) until the economic situation improves over here.

Just noticed the time you said you should be able to get a masters in. How would you get a masters in one year? Also since you mentioned it in regards to that, what is your current field?

My current field in multimedia and web design. I might be miss remembering a year (Looking at this site it seems longer). But I know I don't have to take the test to get in because my GPA was so high and this is a program that works with the school I went to.

This is the program:

I'm skeptical about the benefits of a Masters degree. In Multimedia, portfolio is king. A Masters degree won't compensate for a portfolio that doesn't inspire potential employers. What it will do however, is raise your salary requirements (or your percieved requirements) and price you out of many markets. You'll start to hear the word 'overqualified' at that point ( ... )
