Vestival desperately needs players!

Mar 31, 2010 14:46

Have you signed up forVestival yet? It's coming up on April 16th-18th - a little more than two weeks away! As a reminder, the con is completely free.

Right now we are suffering from a severe lack of players for many of our games. As a result, the following games are in danger of not running:

Chateau Ennui - 2M, 4F, 2N needed for min - It was a dark and stormy night at the Chateau Ennui, a condominium complex in the Los Angeles suburb of San Javier. The air was rank with distrust and scheming. With the recent murders of an elderly couple in one of the condos and the accidental death of another prominent resident, the entire complex is a little on edge. Even after the police arrested the men who did it, no one really feels safer.

Bard of Avalon - 7M needed for min - "The Bard of Avalon" depicts an uncannily familiar dance of marriages and betrayals among the Faerie Courts and contains plotlines from ALL of Shakespeare's plays. The game is recommended for players teenage and older. Familiarity with the source material is useful but not required.

Bitter Tears at Sad Mary's Bar & Girl - 1 needed for min - Tonight is New Years Eve, and far off on the bizarre little Mediterranean island of Al Amarjan--the sort of place frequented by all manner of strangeness, loonies and confused American tourists--ten customers have gathered in the seedy little establishment of Sad Mary's Bar & Girl to enjoy a quiet night away from the rampant celebrations, thefts and violent crime that usually comes with the New Years celebrations on the Island. It looks like it is going to be a quiet night. Wrong. Bitter Tears at Sad Mary's Bar & Girl is a mini-LARP about strange happenings in a strange place, where little is as it seems, potentially even reality itself.

Carry on at Camp David - 3M, 1F, 1N needed for min - It is the 17th November 1962, and the Cold War is at its height. Throughout the USA, rumours of communist conspiracies abound. The setting is Camp David, the US President's official rural retreat. President David Nixody has broken off trade negotiations to hold a reception in honour of astronaut Buzz Leapyear who is to be presented with the Congressional Medal of Honor. It is a relaxed, informal occasion, and the speeches are expected to be kept short. The President is expected to make an announcement about the Statue of Liberty replacement project, which has received much media coverage of late...

Redemption: High Noon at the Devil's Luck - 5M needed for min - Redemption, Arizona: home to sinners, scoundrels, settlers... and one less sheriff than yesterday. His body weren't even cold before folks started settin' up to show down. Now, in the hours before High Noon, everyone in town is fixin' to get their share of Redemption. A game of gamblin', gun-slingin', double-crossin', duelin', and a little romancin' set in the Old West.

Two Hours in London - 3F or 1m/2F needed for min - The year is 1862. The Industrial Revolution flourishes in Great Britain. Families who have farmed the land for generations flock to cities to work in mills and factories. In North American, the former colonies tear each other apart. The Queen Victoria remains in seclusion following the death of her husband and wears only black, yet all across the world, brave men continue to spread the glory of the British Empire. Victoria has been queen for twenty-five years, yet she is only forty-three. It's been two hundred fifty-seven years since the Treason of Guy Fawkes, twenty-eight years since slavery was banned in the British colonies, and two years since the publication of Great Expectations, and it will be thirty-three more until Oscar Wilde is forced from the theatre into a two year prison sentence. Even amid the hustle and bustle of presiding over burgeoning factory operations, funding expeditions to mysterious foreign lands, serving as officers in Her Majesty's armed forces, and maintaining luxurious houses, the London nobility still stops to celebrate joyous occasions, like an engagement. A lovely time is sure to be had friends, family, and servants alike at the garden party celebrating the betrothal of Emily Alexander and Algernon Rutherford. What could possibly go wrong? Two Hours in London, an increasingly inaccurately named game of family politics and upperclass Victorian life. Tea will be served.

Post Future Pop Diva Fashion Show & Silent Auction - 7 needed for min - Inspired by equal parts Lady Gaga and William Gibson, the Post Future Pop Diva Fashion Show & Silent Auction is an event where the great pop culture artists in a post-cyberpunk future gather to celebrate their achievements in fashion and stardom. Gaze in awe as the fabulous strut their stuff across the stage! Stare in rapture as your idols show you why you love them! Buy one of them to take home for the evening! Heavy costuming is not required to participate, but it is definitely encouraged.

City Council of Hound's Teeth - 4 needed for min - How many times has your party walked into a council meeting in a fantasy world with some demand? This horde LARP is what’s really going on at every one of those meetings your tabletop characters have ever walked into. No knowledge of any tabletop system is required for this game.

Welcome to Sunnyvale - 1F needed for min - A short, light LARP that takes place in Sunnyvale retirement home. There are creepy old men, hot young nurses, and even creepy old men hitting on hot young nurses! Bad memories, bad vision, and lots of crazy. "Lots of crazy what?" I'm old! I can use the word crazy any way I want!

And the following games would prefer more players:

League of Extraordinary Hogwarts Students (my game *grin*) - 2M or 1M/1F for preferred; will also accept ladies willing to be crosscast -  It's 1864 in wizarding England, and Hogwarts is holding a Spring Ball for its 7th-year students, including one of Queen Victoria's own children. The Ball is not complete, however, without blood feuds, Egyptian artifacts, deduction, crimes both petty and foul, dancing, and several extraordinary individuals who will no doubt be immortalized in future fiction.

Welcome to Scearbridge - 2 needed for preferred - Unknown to many, Scearbridge University hosts strange secrets. This weekend, at the 25th anniversary celebration, many of these mysteries risk being uncovered. Welcome to Scearbridge University is a modern fantasy game with high interpersonal drama and roleplaying elements.

The Road Not Taken - 3 needed for preferred - The Road Not Taken is an experimental LARP of decisions and emotions. It is a collection of serious real-world mini-LARPs. Each mini-LARP focuses around a tough decision that one character has to make, while other players play the inner voices of that character. The Road Not Taken was written by Mike Young and won the LARPA Small Games Contest in 2008.

The School for Young Women Specializing in the Arts of Grace and Maidenly Submission - 2M, 1N needed for preferred - It is the night before the finishing school girls are due to be wed to a bunch of awful, awful, blotchy old rich guys, as is mandatory for all graduates of the "School for Young Women Specializing in the Arts of Grace and Maidenly Submission." Perhaps the swashbucklers and pirates from the two rival fencing schools (The Scarlet Pimpernel's School of Fencing and Fair Play, and the Dead Pirate Roberts' School of Yar!) can rescue these girls from a fate worse than death. The game takes place in the great field between these three establishments where the two fencing schools are having their annual tournament and final exam.

The characters will all be assorted well-known swashbuckling gallants, infamous pirates, and demure (not so demure) women for a night full for fencing, romance, and mischief in the moonlight.

10 Bad LARPs: C-Section - 3 needed for preferred - “10 Bad LARPs” is a series of improv-style, spectators-encouraged LARPs. The format of each game is a back-to-back series of micro-LARPs, each of which is ten minutes long. Players do not get any clue as to the characters they will be playing until each game begins. There are no mechanics at all - instead, players simply pantomime actions and resolve them dramatically, similar to how improvisational comedy works. The “10 Bad LARPs” series is for adults only. The games in this series are gratuitously sexual, violent, and otherwise offensive.

(numbers are current as of 4/1/10)
