love the colors of number 1.
although in both 1 and 2 i wish i could see more of the flower.

yeah i agree about the first two, and i got some shots of he whole flower but theres like a house in the backround and it looked bad, lol but there are birds of paradise everywhere so im going to find some place where i can get the whole flower in the picture and still get all the greens in the back

i'm trying to work a lot with up close photos and shallow depths of field

try shooting the first one again with a little bit smaller apperature i.e. f8 or f11 to get a little bit longer depth of field.

a shallow depth of field can be nice, but not if it's too shallow.
