Happiness...

So, a billion or so years ago, when I was in college (ok, sometime in the mid to late 80s) I was dating this guy and I made a comment about not being happy. He was a grad student in Linguistics and Anthropology and had done an insane amount of work with Slavic languages. He said something to me like "'Happiness' is an American concept. People in other countries worry about having food, drinkable water, or a place to stay out of inclement weather, but America is the only place where Happiness is so important that our forefathers declared the pursuit of it an inalienable right
