i actually tried evening out the back/bottom last night and i ended up cuting the entire back, lol. amanda said i look like a lesbian because she's such a loving, supportive sister =/

And you did a good job on it.
As for colours... I think that if it was..well a little more blonde and not so yellow.
I know you mentioned red, and I think red would be neat. But I think blonde, and pink, perhaps even some purple if you want to get a little crazy. Where those colours would go Im not sure. Im sorry, Im not much help.
