Well, even if there's no god, the human race depends on there being at least a god figure. Seperate religions would stop fighting for what they believe in, but they'd also stop fighting for everything. There would be no willpower. We'd all know there's nothing after this, so there's nothing to look forward to. No mystery. So we might as well just die already, and stop wondering.
Hell, the sky could change colors, and it wouldn't be documented without a god. People wouldn't look up. No wonder, no amazement. As a people, we need a thought of life after death in order to live our earthly lives.
I was thinking last night about his appearance.. I've decided it would be different for everyone. It kinda makes me think of "What Dreams May Come" in a way. His [Robin Williams'] son portrayed himself as the doctor, because that is what his dad wanted to see. So in the same way, the 'god symbol' would appear to us as we each want to see him. His presense would be undeniable, so people that didn't want to see him at all would - but he would take on a form that left them with nothing to question the fact that "this is god". And especially after this death, people would think inward. Everyone would think about themselves. Just some thoughts.
