☄ 「 character info 」
name: Oerba Yun Fang
canon: Final Fantasy XIII
age: 21 (highlight for spoilers:) physically; 521 chronologically due to crystal stasis.
role in canon: One of six main characters, the Sixth Ranger in fact. Deadpan Snarker and Blood Knight. Ambiguously Brown Hot Amazon. Semi-responsible for a great deal of um, issues that help set the major plot-moving events for the story.

☄ 「 history 」
Listen, you're not alone anymore. We have a new family now. We stick together, you hear me?

Fang will be taken right before the party enters Taejin's Tower, during Chapter 11. She's confronted her Eidolon, learned the truth about her Focus at this point, forgiven Vanille for lying and running away, and has accepted the other l'Cie as their new family, which are all important parts of her development as a character.

☄ 「 personality 」
❝ I've got a few screws loose, but I'm a l'Cie, same as you. ❞

To begin: Fang's not the sort of person who will mince words or sugarcoat things. She's very blunt and straightforward: if she's done something wrong, she'll own up to it, no questions asked. When she's officially introduced, she admits to Lightning that she is responsible for Serah's transformation into a l'Cie without fear, gives her a brief and not especially remorseful-sounding apology, and when Lightning hits her about it, she takes this punishment without complaint. In addition, if she thinks something is wrong, if someone is acting like an idiot, if she disagrees with anything...she's going to speak up about it, hurt feelings or proprieties be damned. Even her makeshift family of the other l'Cie aren't spared from this. She's very confident -- it shows from the words she speaks to her easy, almost lazy body language: it's clear that while she appears relaxed and almost overconfident at times, she is not easily shaken or intimidated by most things, and will get into a fight or a scuffle without much provocation. This isn't to say she's all brawn, however: Fang is very witty, and has a pretty sarcastic sense of humor. She's a smartass, in other words.

Speaking of proprieties, Fang's got very little awareness, or more accurately, she cares very little about people's personal bubbles. She's a tactile, physical sort of person, and very familiar with most people from the get-go -- she hits Snow in the back of the head to knock him out of his daydreaming, she asks to see Lightning's l'Cie brand almost as soon as they've met (and Lightning is clearly somewhat uncomfortable with this), pulls Hope into noogies, claps Sazh on the shoulder and checks Vanille's l'Cie brand in front of all the others, with little regard toward public decency. Fang does what she wants, when she wants to, and if some stiff's got a problem with it, well, they better speak up. She's notably more of a flirt than the other characters as well, and tends to playfully needle Lightning and Snow in particular.

She's an intensely determined, honest and brave person. She doesn't believe in running away from things, doesn't believe in lying or cover-ups. She'll fight for what she believes in, die for those she cares about, defy fate if it goes against what she believes and destroy anything if it means those she cherishes will be kept safe from harm. For instance, her l'Cie brand is frozen for a very specific reason -- this only occurs when l'Cie have defied their original Focus, and through personal willpower and determination, have given themselves another. Ultimately then, Fang's personal Focus then, is not to destroy Cocoon, as the fal'Cie Anima wishes, but to protect those she cares about, namely Vanille. At the end of their first Focus, before they were prematurely frozen in crystal stasis, Fang instead took the brunt of their Focus and transformed into Ragnarok alone, although the Focus was meant for the both of them. The reason for this is because Vanille didn't want to fulfill their Focus -- as this would mean the destruction of Cocoon and the loss of countless lives, and so in that way, Fang was protecting her -- sparing her the pain of having so many deaths on her conscience. She's bothered later on, by her brand being frozen, and not remembering her original Focus, knowing that it is the key to saving Vanille, and although her memories are jumbled and unclear, she believes she has failed the Focus in some way, as Vanille's brand is still active.

This leads us to her relationship with Vanille. In her canon, Vanille's l'Cie brand, unlike Fang's, is still progressing, meaning that unless they remember the Focus the fal'Cie has given them both, Vanille will inevitably turn into an undying monster called a Cieth. Fang is, throughout all of the game, very aware of this possibility, and is so devoted to Vanille she will do anything to prevent this. A good way to refer to her is "unforgivably loyal." She says it herself, to Lightning: "Cocoon and Gran Pulse can rot for all I care. I'll tear down the sky if it'll save her." This sentiment eventually extends to the other l'Cie, whom she refers to as family. This sort of dedication however, leads to desperation for Fang at certain points: she is clearly hurt and angry when it turns out Vanille has been keeping their Focus hidden from her, knowing that it must be finished to prevent Vanille's transformation into a monster. She turns on the party out of this desperation at one point, when it appears they have decided to give up on their Focus of destroying Cocoon -- thinking that even if she has to kill them herself, it is a better fate than watching them all turn into Cieth and suffer for all eternity, and at the end of the game, she does the same thing to Vanille, briefly, and for similar reasons: this time to spare her the suffering of becoming Ragnarok (again) and destroying Cocoon.

That said, because she loves and cares about her family so deeply, at the end she saves the world that she once hated, and one that hated her in turn, not for herself, but because that is their deepest wish.

☄ 「 abilities 」
❝ Back under your rock! ❞

In canon, after being branded by the fal'Cie Anima, the characters are given access to a wide range of abilities via the Crystarium menu. While every character can gain access to every role by the end of the game, each specializes in three particular roles, gaining the largest variety of abilities and being most effective in their specialist roles.

Due to her high Strength and Defense stats, Fang specializes in the Commando, Saboteur and Sentinel roles. She is said to be the best Commando in the game, and has the highest Strength stat by the end of the game, surpassing even Snow, the party's "tank." That said, while she's capable of using magic, she is by no means as adept as Vanille or Hope.

Summon ✖ When a l'Cie experiences a moment of extreme emotional stress, or begins to lose sight of his or her way, a giant monster referred to as an Eidolon appears to beat the crap out of them until they either regain their senses, or to put them out of their misery. Once the Eidolon is bested in battle, the l'Cie then gains the ability to summon the creature into battle to assist. Fang gains the King of Dragons, Bahamut. He is able to transform into a second form (Gestalt Mode), where he gains wings and Fang rides on his back. Bahamut attacks with non-elemental and physical attacks, and is capable of shooting a frickin' laser beam out of its mouth to do a large amount of non-elemental damage.

In addition, she is very physically fit, able to travel long distances without rest (I assume, due to the nature of the journey in FFXIII), resistent to physical damage, and an excellent melee fighter. She is very strong, as seen when she was apprehending Snow. She takes him down, twice, with very little effort, despite the fact that he is a pretty big guy. She is the game's Dragoon, and thus fights with a variety of different spears. The spears are able to split into sections for certain attacks. She'll have her initial weapon, the Bladed Lance, but here is a picture of all her spears, for reference.
