First off, multiple companions=The. Best. Thing. Rory and River dynamics are different than Doctor and Amy dynamics which are different from Rory and Doctor dynamics and they can all go off and do things and move the plot in different directions at the same time and it's awesome! I love Team TARDIS.
Well, I suppose what I should have talked about first was the Doctor's death, but honestly, I find myself unmoved by the whole thing. Obviously they're going to work around it somehow, so I don't see why I should care. It's just a plot device, I would care more if they'd killed someone else. Although the only other option really is Rory, and we've done that twice before. Suppose it could've been Amy, that would have been interesting.
Moffat, stop sexualizing the Doctor every second of the goddamn day. Maybe a throwaway line or two, but revealing him hiding under a woman's skirt? No. Just no. CUT IT OUT! (Which is totally hypocritcal of me, because I love that two of the Founding Fathers "fancied" him (which two do you suppose it was?) but I can sexualize him myself without your help. Your help just makes it feel skeevy.)
The heads on Easter Island are modeled after the Doctor. Awesome.
I'm having trouble taking Mark Sheppard seriously with his awkward American accent. He's still Mark Sheppard though, so I'll get over it. I'm digging Canton Everett Delaware III a lot. I like his dynamic with everybody too.
River's response to all of the guns: "They're American!" LOL. Yes.
I think the Silence look kind of silly. I mean, that woman called them out on it herself when she asked if it was a "Star Trek thing." That would be the cheestastic Original Series she was talking about, renowned for aliens that looked like
this. (Also, did anyone really know what Star Trek was in '69? I thought it gained recognition in reruns.) Also, why are the Silence all wearing suits? Somehow it makes the look even sillier.
River's monologue got to me more than I expected it to. I really liked her this episode.
How do we all feel about Amy's pregnancy? It seemed like a cheap cliff-hanger to use. If it doesn't end up being important to some plot or other I'll be annoyed.
Also, two "Doctor who?" jokes in one episode is two too many. I think we could do with one a season.
Basically I was hoping for more wacky adventure, less serious business from the season opener. But I suppose it was still pretty great, as I do desperately want it to be next Saturday right now.
