Are there other gods in this world, besides just the ones who call themselves the Deities?
If you pray, does anyone hear you?

Somebody always hears. [She doesn't really know this but she likes to believe it.]

Who is it? Who listens?

Firstly, anyone can call themselves a God. It doesn't mean they are, and the things in charge of this place, aren't.

What do you want to pray about?

That's what my sister said. She says the Deities aren't really proper gods at all.

At home I prayed to my father's gods. For strength, or protection or... or other things.

Then your sister sounds smart.

I believe, personally, that someone hears those wishes. But to me, that's closer to what they are than prayers. A prayer doesn't have to ask for something, it's a way of telling your God that you know He's there, which requires faith, which means believing He can hear you and will care about you no matter where you are. The God I believe in doesn't always grant wishes, but he created us with the capability to find our own strength and protect ourselves. If the mistakes we make are our own, God doesn't have to take credit for the good we can do, either.

Is he the same god you prayed to before you came here?

If there are any, I haven't spoken to them.

Someone's supposed to.

Do you know who they are? The gods of this place?

I don't know if there are any gods here besides the deities.

But if you're wanting to pray, I don't believe that your gods not being present here necessarily invalidates their existence entirely.

What if my gods are too far away, and they can't hear?

I do not know. I know that in my world, there are angels and demons, and here as well, and a Norse God has recently arrived here, but I do not know if there is anyone who would hear your prayers.

Do you pray often?

There is a god here?

...I used to sometimes, back home. When I needed to be strong, or... or if I didn't know what to do next.

Yes. Thor, the God of Thunder, I believe.

I would like to think that a prayer here would have much the same effect as in anyone's home world.

Thor. [Bran takes note of it.]

Maybe. But the gods that hear me here might be different from the ones I knew.

Think there's always someone up there listening, Bran.

For true?

[His voice brightens.]

Who is it? Who listens?

I don't know. Personally, I think it's God. But I also think it's different for different people.

Who do you think listens?

At home I prayed to my father's gods. But Arya says they can't hear us here because we're in another world.
