This was heartwrenching. Made me tear up.

And the end is an evil cliffhanger.

Thanks for your comment! I've the feeling that all the LJ's members tried to write some evil cliffhangers.
I can't believe there are only 4 episodes left!
Fox, I hate you!

Must be something in the water or the air. *shrugs helpless*

Me neither. The thought makes me so sad. :(

I like this fic a lot--your little!Ryan is so cute, and so scared and, well, traumatized, and I love how the Cohens are trying so hard to make it work, when all he wants is his mom.

It was all kinds of heartbreaking that he kept saying his mother needed him, even at such a young age--obviously, he's used to being the caretaker.

Ryan-meets-the-Cohens-earlier scenarios are always neat, I can't wait to see where you're going to take this!

Another great chapter!

I’m her special helper.

She’ll need me to help. I can bring her chicken soup.

Gosh, you simply broke my heart there. I'm tearing up again. I really like how you don't go the easy road here. In most stories about little Ryan, the boy setteles with the Cohens just fine after a couple of tough days, but you address all the issues that I would guess a traumatized boy like Ryan would go face, like feeling responsible for his mother, being homesick, being convinced that the new arrangement is only a temporary one...

"This will help with the swelling. Okay? You trust me about that don’t you?”
Ryan nodded. He was exhausted. He quietly leaned against Sandy, closed his eyes and fell asleep.
Aww. He's starting to trust Sandy. Such a beautiful image that you are creating here.

Thanks for sharing, I'm looking forward to more of this!

Thanks for your comment! I've got 2 truly awesome beta who helped a lot!
I didn't want Ryan's adaptation to his new life to be easy. It's not realistic to hope that a 5 year old child can fit in a totally new life in a few days (or even in a few weeks). I want to show that it's a pretty long process. It's gonna take time (and chapters!)!
I hope you'll enjoy the next chapters!

Poor sweet little Ryan. Will Ryan Atwood soon become Ryan Cohen? That'd be so sweet. And I can't wait until Baby Cohen arrives, hopefully in the series finale if it skips ahead six months like everybody says it's going to.

Thanks for your comment! I'm not sure Ryan is gonna become an official "Cohen". I mean, it won't be necessary for him to change his name to realize that he's part of the Cohen Family. But it's gonna take time for him to accept that he's got another family!
I try no to think about the finale (oops, sorry The Finale). Makes me so sad :(
(hope it's a baby girl, named after Kirsten's mom)

Me too. It'd be sweet if the baby's named after Kirsten's mom.But everybody's worried about Kirsten and the baby because of spoilers for "The Shake-Up" and "Night Moves".(Yes,an episode is named after one of my favorite Bob Seger songs.Between this and "Styx" being played on Supernatural(which I missed to watch "Groundhod Day"),I'm having a good week.Since I'm a Supernatural fan,I'll be watching Supernatural and taping the O.C.That way,I can fast forward through annoying commercials.

I'm currently watching the season 1 of Supernatural and I really enjoy it! I really like Heroes(and Prison Break)!
I don't think there's gonna be a drama around Kirsten's pregnancy : because of this stupid cancellation, they can't begin a new arc and I really wouldn't understand that they made Kirsten pregnant just to make her loose the baby.
People on TwoP think that someone's gonna be injured (after the Chrismukkuh, I doubt Ryan will be hurt again, so wait and see).

Thanks for your comment!
The Cohens always knew that they were in way over their heads when taking Little Ryan in but now they realize that the adaptation will take more time they imagined.
"I'm curious about Ryan's hand injury"
You'll know what happened in chapter 10!
"Good luck to Sandy and Kirsten with that."
And an unexpected event in chapter 10 is gonna make them realize that the situation is harder that they thought.
I hope you'll like the next chapters!

What's not to like? You give us everything that TPTB neglected in terms of family focus and parents who are aware, committed and actually seem to care about Ryan and are invested in him instead of merely wanting him to toe the line and blend in as quickly and seamlessly as possible while trying to ignore any and all of his past. Your Cohens don't make Ryan feel inferior or uncomfortable or discourage him from being who he is even if they are uncertain and struggling and learning as they go.

I'll be watching more closely so I don't miss the next chapter and for the details you referred to as well.

Thanks!
