Woah. Well, it's hard for me to judge such a thing since I'm not the one experiencing it and I don't know what the pain feels like, but if it wasn't terribly hurting on a daily basis, put it off until the summer. Really, your biggest hurdle is marching season right now. After that closes, lay off the heavy lifting (have someone help you when you're bringing your tuba home) and get Cassels and Ball to hook you up with a tuba stand for concert. Adopt a more nonphysical role in all your comminity service endeavors and you should be smooth sailing until the summer surgery. But if it really hurts, then that's your call.
I'd give you a hug, man, but I'm afraid that would only lead to more damage. I have the bear hug grip of doom.
Best wishes, and try to stop stressing too much over it. Just take cautionary measures and it'll go okay. But I'm sorry to hear about the marching chefs. I know that was a major goal for you.
