I've been doing alot of thinking lately. I've always said that I wanted to be a Band director when I grow up, but, I dunno anymore. I dunno if I want to be a music teacher, because, I wont be playing music, I'll be conducting. While being a teacher lets me change the lives of young individuals, one of the main reasons I want to be a music ( Read more... )

Welcome to the mad dash world of major-changing dilemmas. That's pretty cool. I remember for a long time, I too wanted to be a music teacher, or thought that I wanted to be. Granted, I'm still doing education, but just on a different level, instead going for the more standard labeling of a "math teacher." That's pretty cool though. You could defintely make a living with music therapy, though I imagine you'll be doing something like your own practice, which in theory could give you a lot of leeway with being able to work how you want to. Smart choice, if you ask me.

LMAO at your icon!!! OMG That is hilarious!

I think music therapy would be very interesting to do. I think it would suit you will. I also do not have the patience to deal with children and I owuld like to continue with music. Not majoring in it of course for I also don't have the talent.

I love you so much and I miss you

yea im still doing the whole music ed thing... i feel i could do it and be able to draw from my expecriences with all types of different teachers and not just music ones... but yay therapy, also an important field... what exactly would you be doing? all i can think of would be like helping out musicians who can no longer play... like this one story of an oboe prodigy who lost his right hand in an accident and then picked up french horn and is doing amazing on it...

Music therapy: I've never heard of it, but it sounds quite interesting. Psychology isn't as weird as some people mock it to be. Since you're lookin' to be more of the musician than the director, this sounds like a fantastic field, for you're a great musician.

However, don't let go of the Band Director idea. I think you'd make a great director, really; you're absolute love for music would never let you be a bad one! You say you can't deal with kids not practicing - do you REALLY have to deal with them? I mean, if they're not willing to put their souls into their stuff, why keep 'em around? If you were to become a BD, you'd be a No Tolerance BD; what you would say would go, and if people can't handle that, show 'em the exit. If their parents think you're crazy, explain to them that their kid SUCKS (Musically, and Personally) and show them the exit as well. *Kool-Aid Grin* Then, once the fools are gone, take the kids that are about as passionate as you for their music, and make them into thee greatest.
