CHARACTER:
Name: Nereisse Randir
Source: OC
History: Nereisse, along with her twin brother Faldain and her little sister Cyprus were born in Milika to his mother, Streea Baren'datraga and birth father, Giles. Streea was a halfbreed drow woman who had been born and raised on the surface, and in Nereisse's mind there isn't a braver, kinder woman alive. She never met her maternal grandfather or mother; they were dead long before he was born. Her birthfather's parents, her grandparents, were the ones that raised her for the first decade of her life, as Streea and Giles were often on the road, helping in protecting the countryside from the many perils it faced, often gone in their large groups. Still, they came back often, and she was never deprived of her mother's company for too long.
Nereisse was always the more rambunctious of the twins, while her twin brother was the quiet, introspective one. If Nereisse could touch it, she would, and if it could be weilded as a weapon she would often have mock battles in the front yard of her grandparent's home. Slaying ogres, saving her twin from "dragons." Anything exciting, anything new. Seieng her mother attacked while she was little though, it had an honest effect on her. While Dain grew to hate battle and what it did to people, Nereisse grew to crave strength. She wanted to be stronger, faster; always able to protect those she cared for, without having to burden anyone into worrying about her.
It was during her and Dain's "preteen" years that Giles left for good. Whether he was dead or had just run off, she was never certain, but Nereisse has never forgiven the elf for leaving her mother behind. It hit Nereisse significantly harder than it did Dain in a single way. Whereas in looks, her twin brother was the spitting image of their mother, Nereisse was identical to her father with her golden skin and black hair. She even had Giles's eyes. She was never shunned for it though, to her relief. Streea and her party took the children from his grandparents and they continued to travel onwards, Dain and Nereisse protected by Streea's friend Whisper, who had two children of her own, a colt named Rowdy, and a filly named Sullen. She was thrilled to be at her mother's side, and rarely staid put where she was told, preferring to go off with Rowdy on "Adventures" that led to Faldain dragging her out of danger before adults could chastise them.
Not even thirty years ago, Nereisse was thrilled to learn that her mother would be remarrying, a sun elf carpenter by the name of Seren Randir, and an old and dear friend of the family. He was a gentle, quiet man, a little skittish for Nereisse's taste, perhaps, but Seren was certainly no fighter. But Nereisse was happy when the newly combined family settled down in Milika in Streea's old home. She visits them often, but more than not, she's on the road.
Personality: Nereisse is an adventurer first and foremost. The open road has often called to her, as it did her mother and father before her, and rarely is it that she can settle down there for very long without getting "the bug" and going off once more. Treasure, travel, the lust for adventure is what pulls her. Nereisse loves traveling and fighting, and (of course) gaining money and valuable artifacts for it! She usually roams the countries and towns with small mercenary bands that tend to change from village to village. She's not picky, so long as she isn't underestimated and her company doesn't happen to be the sort that would do dishonorable things to good people. Good people being subjective to those she deems so!
Money is another driving force with Nereisse. She enjoys getting it. Gold, gems, anything that can be used as currency and has a sparkle to it tends to catch her eye. She doesn't hoarde it quite as much as others, unless it's a particularly eye-catching piece of sellable art. Then it might go into her pocket to be kept! When not fighting, she’s an exuberant, lusty, loud female, at times very un-elflike (at least, as far as how her race is perceived by outsiders). Humans fascinate her and she loves to sit and swap stories with them about anything and everything. She’s the exact opposite of her twin brother, who is quiet and contemplative.
It can be noted though, that when talk of her family is brought up, while she has nothing but praise for her twin brother, baby sister, mother, and stepfather, never will she speak well of her birthfather, the man whom she is the spitting image of. Questioning her about him will only lead to a very cold "He left, and he's probably dead." Then she will change the subject and her mood will lighten once more. It bothers her a great deal how much she looks like Giles, as opposed to appearing drow like her brother, sister, and mother. It at times, leaves her feeling like the odd one out, no matter her love for her family.
Biggest Fear: Turning out to be worthless to her family or her teammates. Being unable to roam (being trapped)
Powers: Being an elf, Nereisse can commune to a minor extent with nature, allowing her to feel the emotions of living things. This is by no means a powerful ability, however. Being half drow, the innate abilities she might have been gifted with are diluted, and more likely to not work than be useful (levitation, globe of darkness). She does have heat vision in the dark, however.
