Character Name: Aoi Hyoudou (In some translations his last name is either spelt Houdou or Hyodo)
Character Series: Kaichou wa Maid-sama
Character Age: 14

Background: Kaichou wa Maid-sama Wiki

Aoi is the nephew of the manager of Café Latte. He’s constantly scolded by his family to become manlier since he enjoys dressing up as a girl. His dad once kicked him out of his house because of his internet status and has also sent him to the beach to become “manlier.”

He is a new internet celebrity. As defined by one of the characters in the manga, an internet celebrity is an internet user who uploads pictures of them dressing in nice outfits. The same character also defined that unlike the stars who have pictures up of them in swimsuits, Aoi is more of a simple, plain, pure and unembellished type of “girl.”

Personality: If someone would to describe Aoi with only one word, it’d be “brat.” He tends to insult girls that he doesn’t think are feminine enough. For example, in canon, he got angry at Misaki because her shirt was too plain. Another example was when Misaki tried to help him, he went ahead and told her that she had “no charm” and that the swimsuit maid outfit would surely look unattractive on her.

He can also be very narcissistic at times, especially when he is in his girl cosplay. In the volleyball match chapter, he stated afterwards that he was “the only one fit to play the princess” while in costume. Aoi cares a lot about his appearance; mainly because he is an internet celebrity. He doesn’t like the idea of getting a tan or getting sun burnt at all and calls people who actually want to stay out in the UV rays “black.” (not in a racist way)

Aoi treats his aunt Satsuki with care and usually tries to snap her out of situations when she goes blank; usually resulting in her crying. Most of his pep talks are more of angry rants than the normal happily cheering up though. He also really cares about the café Satsuki runs. Aoi begs his aunt to let him have a job as a maid waitress, but his aunt usually turns him down, telling him he’s too young. Once, in canon, he even tried out for the footman audition when Café Latte was about to be bought out by a major restaurant company. After he was exposed as being too young for the audition, Satsuki scolds him for doing reckless things. He began to show that he cared about the business, but quickly covered the assumption up by saying he’d make a café even cuter than Café Latte.

Also when Aoi is in costume around the general public, he also takes on a completely different personality. He acts “cuter” and nicer than his actual attitude. He doesn’t insult anyone. This usually results in a crowd of men surrounding him, completely blinded by his façade and thinking he’s actually a girl. He just does this for his own entertainment and clearly states in chapter thirteen that “men are easy to delude.” Though he’s not all after the fame, he says he likes to dress up as a girl because it’s him and he loves it. That’s probably why he gets really ticked when his family constantly steals his wig.
