A Private Lounge at a Mainland Club, Thursday Evening

Aug 16, 2012 10:08

Kennedy was supposed to be home in New York tonight, helping with the last few days of moving preparations. In fact, that was what she'd been doing, but apparently all her well-meaning offers of assistance were really just wreaking havoc on Willow's carefully constructed System. So, she'd been persuaded (like that was hard) to go out and patrol, ( Read more... )

Well, Bobby wasn't a girl, but come on. Like that was gonna stop him.

He briefly considered putting on a wig or something, though. But in the end he vetoed that idea. So now he was just sliding in to the booth next to Kennedy. "Whatever happens, don't let me suggest any impromptu trips anywhere," he advised.

"What did you do?" Kennedy turned to him and raised one eyebrow pointedly. "Person who, as far as I know, isn't a girl unless Fandom does that weekend wacky?"

Note the lack of complaint in her voice, though.

"Uh, I think we decided to go on a safari last night?" Bobby said. It was all kind of hazy, really. "And... ended up in the Savage Land." He stuck his tongue out at her. "Also, you're the one who called me, remember? So my presence here is totally justified."

"I did kind of want you here," Kennedy pretended to concede as if it was an incredibly difficult thing to acknowledge. Twist her arm, why don't you. "Besides, if I thought you needed to be thrown out I could totally do that with one hand."

Sigh, Kennedy. Be obnoxious, why don't you.

Raven was frantic to try to make Karla feel better about what had happened (and feeling a little guilty herself, of course, despite the fact that her presence wouldn't have changed anything, and she might've even made it worse by getting angry), so she was relieved when Kennedy offered to arrange an impromptu gathering.

She usually accidentally indulged in alcohol rather than drinking it on purpose, but tonight she felt she deserved a drink or two. And given how delicious this S'Mores Martini tasted, maybe three.

Karla slumped next to her. Pouting. This probably shouldn't surprise anyone.

"I hate everything," she informed her. "Everything. And possibly everyone. I haven't decided yet."

Raven slipped her arm around Karla's shoulders and gave her a gentle squeeze. "I am sorry I was not there for you," she said, for probably the one hundredth time. "But I will help you do whatever is necessary to set things to right, I promise you."

She offered Karla her glass. "Try to relax and not think about it right now, please, for just a little while?" she said. "Try this. It is some glorious mixture of whipped cream and chocolate liqueurs." With crushed graham crackers around the rim!

Don't mind if she did, Raven!

Karla reached for the glass and sipped--then took a much longer drink from it. Don't worry, Kennedy. Karla would be happy to monitor Raven's drinking for you. By drinking half of whatever Raven ordered.

She was a good friend like that.

"Apparently it's not something anyone else can do for me," she said with a scowl. "It's something I have to figure out for myself."

Tara came straight from work; she'd put on lipstick and braided her hair up, but she was still wearing the t-shirt and khakis that normally went with days when she might be digging things out of the storage room.

She looked surprised as she wandered in. "Hi," she said. "This is ... wow. Nicer than I expected."

Karla chuckled at that and held a brightly colored drink out for Tara. "Really? With Kennedy at the wheel? This is almost tame for her."

"It's been a while since I let her plan a party, I guess," Tara said, accepting the drink. "How are you? Can I give you a hug?"

"I would love a hug," Karla said, reaching out to hug Tara fiercely. "Do you want the real answer, or the party-appropriate one?"

"I've decided this is my Pity Party," Karla announced to the room at large. "And also Kennedy's end-of-summer bash." Which was also making Karla sad, so she got to claim that to. "I don't know yet if drinks are on me or should be bought for me, but I do know I want all of them."

ALL the drinks.

Kennedy waved a hand. "Hey, go crazy at the bar. I got this. And no arguing, 'cause if we end up fighting over it, it's not gonna be pretty, and I really don't want to have to explain that to management, you know?"

"I'm willing to give in without a fight today," Karla said breezily, pretending that she was All Right With Everything. "It's the least you can all do, since you're all packing up and leaving."

Not that she was upset about that, either. Really. Ignore how fast she downed her drink after saying that. It was...how you appreciated a good wine. By gulping.

The faster you drank it, the better you could experience all the flavor subtleties. Honest!

"Look at it this way," Kennedy suggested, "it just means you have that many more couches to crash on in, like, a dozen different worlds, because if you don't come visit I'm gonna have to be sad."

...she'd just have to make sure Dawn wasn't around at the same time, or the poor kitchen would never be the same.

A night out with the girls was exactly what Emma needed for tonight.

"Really, Kennedy, open bar?" Emma was already waving over tequila shots. "Who is going to try and match my magnificent mutant metabolism? Step right up, ladies."

Kennedy snorted, but jogged over to avail herself of some of that tequila. Her metabolism was pretty impressive now, post-upgrade, but sadly it hadn't affected her liquor capacity. Good thing that had been decent beforehand.

Emma would probably still beat her, though.

"If there isn't an open bar, I'm not doing it right," she retorted cheerfully. "Come on, it's the least we all deserve."

"Fall is looming, along with the new fashions finally getting off the runway and into the stores, while you go tanning and I go back to civilization," Emma agreed, sliding a shot over to Kennedy. "Cheers, darling."

"Hey. You ever feel like tanning, just give me a call. I guarantee a nice place to stay." Kennedy, who apparently had no problem inviting all her friends to visit without asking her girlfriend, raised the shot glass with a smirk before tossing it back. "Here's to a little fun before the real world drags us back, right?"
