Felt so true, Dean by this age would have completely absorbed the 'take care of Sam' order and would be feeling so guilty. I loved that Sam made him fell okay by explaining his trust.

i read The Last Rung on the Ladder just about a year ago and the boys were the first thing i thought of when i got to the end. the trust in that story is just the same a Sam'n'Dean. the show seems to have a lot in common with the end of the story too, the way the younger sibling kind of self-destructs and feels maybe it would have been best if they had not survived the fall. i see that in Sam a lot.
great story, i really liked the dialogue and interaction of the boys. Little!Sammy is kind of an addiction of mine. paired with LittleBigBrother!Dean it was just too cute.

Ooh, it's so cool you read the original story! I read it first very many years ago (not telling how many) and re-read it every once in a while and I never fail to cry. On my latest re-read, it popped in my head that this could be the boys and voila! Hopefully, Stephen wouldn't mind.
