Where? We'll be going to a small town on the south-eastern coast of Honshu, right across from Shikoku. The biggest town nearby is Okayama.
How? The Old Boy Network, of course. Friend in the States had a friend who was leaving his job teaching at a kindergarten, so we applied to take his place.
You do realize that this now will require me to come to Japan and visit, right?
I'll have to see what happens after I get done with my contract here in Korea. I do want to go to Japan, I feel like I'm being called there, but I just don't know the way...
To be honest, Kunming wasn't that bad either. The food wasn't my favorite, sure, but there were usually one or two things I enjoyed. Of course the language was a huge challenge (that I eventually gave up on) but we had learned how to navigate the buses, how to shop, etc. We have lots of American friends here that it will be hard to leave.
So really, we were at a point where we felt like either way next year was going to be awesome. And getting to live in small town Japan for two years? Definitely qualifies as awesome.
My work will be with a private kindergarten/day care, teaching 30 minute English lessons to adorable Japanese children. Nick will do computer programming full time, and English tutoring and Bible studies on the side.
Thanks! The biggest problem right now is our finances and figuring out where we will be in the 2 weeks between our contract here ending and our contract in Japan starting. We need to be close to a Japanese embassy so we can get our visas (we don't have a reliable address in China, so our passports would get swiped for sure).
We really want to go back to the US, especially since our contract with Japan will be for two years, but financially it's a LOT more expensive than going to Hong Kong or Seoul. Besides airfare we have to think about hotels, food, a temporary apartment/hotel in Japan, and living money before we get paid...it adds up to a lot! So right now, figuring out the finances is definitely our number one concern.
