Whales Weep Not by D. H. Lawrence.
Note: I was unfamiliar with this poem until I watched Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. William Shatner is not my usual go-to source for lyrical inspiration. Plus, I hear this is considered one of the worst movies. But it's such a good poem! I particularly like:

I mean, the premise of the movie is still that the crew of the Enterprise go back in time to rescue two whales from 1984 and bring them to the 30th Century to save the world from a roaring cylinder, so we can't say too many good things about it... But in terms of the franchise, it did something that no other episode or movie ever did, which was bring the characters into the immediate present, and truly show us what an improvement the post-Federation world could really be.
It's also, I think, the single most memorable Star Trek story line ever made. Even people who don't like Star Trek know what you're talking about when you say "it's the one with the whales." And yes, you're right "Whales Weep Not" is a stunning poem.
