Religion is man's attempt to reach God. Christianity is the only evidence of God's attempt to reach man. Jesus often confronted the religiosity of those people who would presume to be better or less sinful than another person, and who would presume to be even more righteous than Jesus Himself.

Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind
