I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye makes you stumble, tear it out and throw it from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.  Matthew 5:28-29

OK, I have only one question after reading through this...

Is it sinful if a man looks at his wife with lust in his thoughts?

I'm not being facetious, this is really something I wonder about...

I'd like to know your thoughts on this one too bravobevo. Can there be a healthy lust and an unhealthy one in this situation?

I take it that your question is whether it is sin when a husband lusts for sex or whatever with his own wife. I guess my response to your question is whether a husband's lust for his own wife is completely a selfish desire or a desire for what is also best for his wife.

Let's get beyond the elementary school definition that sin is disobeying God. As we look into a more mature definition of sin, we see that sin falls short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). So, therefore, if the husband demanded sex from his wife regardless of her physical condition, then he would not be honoring her and he would be inconsiderate of her, and that lust would be sin. On the other hand, if his desire to have sex with his wife is not wholly selfish, but considerate of her concerns and interests, then I believe that his attitude (even though it is full of lusty thoughts towards his wife) is not selfish but that it glorifies God.

My understanding of "Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge" ( ... )

I just re-read your question and realized that you might have been asking a completely different question in "Is it sinful if a man looks at his wife with lust in his thoughts?"

In case you were asking whether it is sinful for a man to have sex or look at his own wife while fantasizing about someone else, I would have to say that God probably doesn't intend for that to happen, especially if that someone else is a real person. I think we guys, even Christian husbands, can do a lot of rationalizing to justify our thoughts and actions, which doesn't necessarily make them right.

If this is taking your question beyond what you intended, I apologize.
