I think I'll wait until I've read the books before seeing it. Which shouldn't take too long once exams are over.

Yes, you should definitelt read the first book before seeing the movie. Even though they appeared to have changed a lot and strayed slightly from the exact plot, I still think it's a good idea. I had a hard to reading Lord of the Rings because I'd already seen the movie.
