My birthday is in a month. I am turning 27. Remarkable huh? I can now say that I have known some people for 20 years. That's right folks, kindergarten with Mrs. Corelly and Mrs. Stern was over 20 years ago. My friendship with Josh Brooks and Vince Dinapoli began 20 years ago. My first crush was over 20 years ago (I started pretty young)...Amazing

How we treat ourselves quite badly...

I think that when we search for a reason that someone has abandoned us we often scoot first to the thing that we're most insecure about. For you, I know it's always been your weight; for me, I just figure it's my propensity to have a few drinks and perhaps my interests in general (not many women want to talk about nominees for the Supreme Court or obscure progressive bands). Most often it's nothing like that: unless we really fuck up, it's the person's own problems that cause the separation. He/she might just decide that they're not ready for something at the moment that involves emotional commitment when they're trying to, say, go to work and school simultaneously. Or they might dramatically discover (being pretty goddamn immature, really) that they need to "expand their horizons" and see what's out there
