he's seen a couple ugly things in the war, but he doesn't seem too trigger-able about them. neither am i. so don't worry about this.
MEDICAL INFO.
in good health. he has some good constitution going on there, can sprint fast, and so on. however, he's just recently suffered a head trauma that doesn't seem to be affecting him, but that was enough to knock him out for six hours. he's fine overall, but he may get some aftermath headaches and the usual. the only thing of note here is that has a nasty, deep, and still very red, i.e. fresh scar running across his throat and - from the same incident - a damaged larynx and vocal cords. So yes. He's not physically capable of speaking more than a bit of whispering. [Note: this is headcanon, to explain why he doesn't talk at all when he clearly communicates with gestures fairly excessively sometimes.]

he's fine mentally, too. he's seen some ugly things, though, so if your character's a mindreader and really wants to get in there, don't expect it all to be flowers and sunshine. IF you have a mindreader type character, PLEASE talk to me before doing anything like that. this guy has a really mysterious past, a lot that isn't even covered by canon, and if somebody jumped into his head and all... well, i'd have to come up with something. and i don't want to take THAT many liberties, honestly. so... you wanna take a look into his head? awesome. just talk to me so we can figure out a way around the stuff that i don't want to have to make up. lol

i'm totally cool with fights and him getting injured. just make sure to discuss it with me first. this guy, unlike my other, is a bit of a badass. not TOO much, though, so no worries. just a human special ops soldier.

since nobody knows his face and he doesn't have anything like a voice (lol), you can assume that weird guy in the showers that nobody's seen before is him. anybody from halo-canon would probably see on first glance that he's an odst, though, because as everybody in the 105th marine expeditionary unit (sub-group of the odst), he has the odst's "skull and comet" symbol tattooed somewhere. what's more, anybody would immediately know his blood type (0+) and his rank (lance corporal) if they are familiar with those things, since the former is printed very large on the left shoulder of his armour, and the latter is visible in the insignia on his armour's chest plate.
