Character Information
Name: Soul Eater Evans
Canon Origin/Series: Soul Eater
School Year: 5th year
Gender: male
Age: 15
Out of school living location: City of Westminster, London, U.K.
Blood status: Muggleborn

Personality:
On a first meeting, Soul seems laid back, almost apathetic and aloof. He's constantly in a slouch with a drooping look on his face, hands in his pockets. This is his definition of the 'cool guy' he's trying to be. In many ways, he's the complete opposite of Maka; a total slacker when it comes to schoolwork but more than eager to get into a fight with someone. Immature, headstrong and stubborn seem to be the right words to describe Soul, however one of the things he's gained from years of trying to be 'cool' is that he's positively the most loyal person you could ever meet. He considers breaking promises uncool, and would do anything to protect his friends. Despite appearing to be apathetic, Soul is capable of being determined and gets people back on their feet in desperate times with the right words.

One of the things he keeps to himself is that he's quite vulnerable to low self esteem, first with his brother Wes and then with other people like Justin. He's reluctant to share these problems with others, coming off as cold when inquired about it, and shares Crona's fear of bonding with people. He has an appreciation for jazz music and Gothic architecture, likes playing basketball and sometimes has a dark and sarcastic sense of humor.

Canon Background:
Soul is first introduced in the series about to achieve Death Scythe awesomeness with his Meister Maka after taking out Jack the Ripper. Unfortunately they're denied because the witch they went after? Not even a witch. She's just a cat who wanted the cool hat that all witches get. This means that Soul and Maka have to start collecting 99 corrupt human souls all over again because they got a dud. Seriously uncool.

Soul and Maka attend Shibusen, a school for Meisters and their Weapons in Death City, Nevada. There, kids who have the abilities of either Meisters or Weapons learn about their powers, Soul Resonance, and other such things. Basically it's like Hogwarts, but without the magic per se. They live together in an apartment further in Death City.

Soul became a student at Shibusen mainly to escape the prestigious lifestyle of the Evans family, using his Weapon ability as an excuse to leave the family, mainly due to low self esteem over the fact that his brother Wes was more talented than he was. One day while playing the piano down the hall from a function held for students to find partners, he met Maka. Soul played a piece for her, telling her that that was his soul - twisted and dark. Maka didn't really care either way, and asked him to become her partner. Soul accepted with the words "Sure, sounds cool."

Background (AU!Canon; HP):
Born into a wealthy Muggle family with generations of well known musicians, Soul needless to say didn't have a terrible upbringing. Gifted with a talent for the piano, he was however constantly out-shined by his older brother's genius on the violin. Despite his inferiority complex towards his brother Wes, they shared a regular brotherly relationship. Soul, however, refused to play in front of others because he knew that no matter how well he played, he could never be as good as Wes.

He hated recitals, and to make matters worse his parents would have one every weekend. Wes would play first, and Soul second. To anyone with a trained ear, they could tell that the older brother was better. Soul feared the whispers behind their hands during and after his performance, and would often excuse himself from the room just to avoid those judgmental eyes with either the excuse that he was tired or going to get some fresh air.

When his Hogwarts letter arrived, the family was rather shocked. Soul had never outwardly displayed any latent magical talent, and it was unknown whether or not there had been a wizard and/or witch in the family in the past. He took it as an opportunity to get away from the many expectations his parents placed on him as a member of the Evans family. Wes encouraged his decision to break away from family tradition. Soul decided to take advantage of this and threw away the Evans name, taking up the last name Eater to anyone who asked. After all, if nobody knew then there would be no pressure on him to perform better than his brother.

How would your character fit in to each House?
Gryffindor: Soul certainly has many Gryffindorish qualities. He's courageous and reckless to a fault, something that many other Gryffindors find gets them into trouble, and definitely brave. He's also more than likely to run headlong into danger without thinking things through as well (that's Maka's job :|b).

Slytherin: It's not to say that Soul doesn't lack the cunning that Slytherin house is famous for, nor isn't overly ambitious, but he's rather...lacking in the leadership department. Sure people look to him when the going gets rough, but let's face it - he's a complete and utter slacker. Also, cool guys don't betray their friends :|b

Hufflepuff: Soul is perhaps the most loyal friend you could ever have. Seriously. He's like a little dog that follows you around - or a big dog with razor sharp teeth. This is probably the thing that gets him neck-deep in danger, such as when he took the blow from Ragnarok/Crona for Maka. However, he lacks the drive for hard work if it's not appealing to him.

Ravenclaw: Pfff. The only Ravenclawish thing about Soul is probably his love for Gothic architecture. Heck, he tried to cheat on a test in canon. Though he does have a dark wit about him and is quick to think on his feet. But let's leave the books for Maka and Kid.

Sample Journal Entry:
Oi, Maka, Blair made her way into the boy's dorm again. I woke up with her on my chest this morning one of these days that cat's going to smother me in my sleep.

Man, why does that make-up test have to be today? I spent all last night studying and didn't get anything at all. Lost some sleep too. Wonder if I could get away with sleeping during the test...

Sample Interaction Post in Third Person:
Soul's fingers tapped across the ivory keys in a dissonance tone followed by a crescendo, the tension in the music gradually growing louder and louder before it fell into fortissimo. His music always had a tendency to be dark and twisted, but that was the way he was - this was the music from his soul.

He paused, the music pausing with him before he raised a hand from the piano to rub the back of his neck. "Nah. That doesn't sound right," he muttered under his breath before picking up the notepad next to him and scratching out a couple of notes, writing new ones. It was a pain in the ass trying to figure out these things sometimes.

His notebook was littered with pages like the one he was currently experimenting with. A few had been ripped out when he'd been unhappy with them. Having a musical background flowing through his veins gave him the worst headaches...even worse that his power was connected through his ability to play piano. Once he was satisfied, Soul nodded to himself on a glance over of the page before setting it down on the fountain ridge again and pulling his keyboard from his back where it rested. "Let's try this again, Soul..."

He started off this time with a dolce before sliding easily into a diminuendo and then a grave. His head bobbed up and down with the tune, before his fingers slipped into a darker tone. His foot tapped in the air. Soul frowned a little, pursing his lips together when he reached the next part and after another moment he gave an irritated sigh and stopped playing.

"No, not that either. Damnit. This is so not cool."
