Given how many times Chisame had witnessed lightning lash and flicker across her teacher's skin, seeing the same phenomenon occur with a baby shouldn't have fazed her.

Except that her teacher wasn't the next Demon King (though she harbored doubts about the saintliness of his father) and Negi had something called logic and morals, something neither this baby or his caretaker possessed-- or, if they did, it was in very sparse quantities.

Chisame stared down at the teary-eyed baby in her arms, wondering just how this had happened. He'd been asleep when Oga dropped him into her hold, saying something about getting food with a grin that didn't bode well, but he'd woken up the instant his guardian was out of sight. And now he was sniffling. And... crackling. If this kept up, there'd be a veritable lightning storm, and she didn't think she'd be lucky enough to be in the eye of it.

If the brat fried her laptop - or her - that thug was a dead man ( ... )

Chisame honestly couldn't figure out what to say first. On the one hand, the girl was perky and busty and pretty enough to be a long-lost member of her class. On the other, she was dense enough to be assuming that a stranger gaping at her choice of snack automatically meant she'd found a kindred spirit. ... Which could also link her to her class, now that she thought about it.

"Do you want a bite?" The girl continued blithely. "I've got more than enough at the inn."

"No," Chisame said immediately, wondering if there was a god out there and if it hated her. "I'm... not hungry."

"Oh." The girl deflated for a moment-- and then perked up instantly. "Wouldn't it be interesting if that was actually your name? Not Hungry, I mean. Then no one would be able to tell if you were actually hungry or not, and the misunderstandings would make you become a hero of justice to prove your worth! I'm Orihime Inoue, by the way-- eh, Not Hungry-san, where are you going

The grin turned into a smirk. "So you're saying it's better because it's got a bunch of little girls and a perverted old man--"

Two minutes later, April looked up from her card game with Leap as she heard "I'M OFF A BOAT! I'M OFF A BOAT! EVERYBODY LOOK AT ME 'CAUSE I GOT KNOCKED OFF A BOAT-- DAMMIT MAY YOU KNOW I CAN'T FLY!!"

"Tear, look!" Kazuha's delighted cry drew not only Tear's attention, but the other two's as well. Crow and Kaito's curious glances, however, turned to amused grins and shrugs when they saw what she was pointing out.

"Girls," Crow muttered to his friend, who only grinned wider when Kazuha grasped Tear's hand to drag her over to the newly-discovered flower patch. This hadn't been on the schedule for tonight's outing (as Kazuha called it, rather than "date", as Kaito insisted), but then, when it involved the four of them, things rarely ever went as planned. And yet somehow, it always worked out.

Oblivious to the boys, Tear stepped closer to the patch, bending down to inspect one of the white flowers with the lightest of touches. As if in response, the flower's petals brightened, becoming a radiant silvery-white and triggering the same reaction with the rest of the flowers until the entire patch was glowing.

Kazuha's mouth fell open. "W-whoa-- what did you do? They're so pretty ( ... )

It had been a tiresome day; readjusting to the island was never an easy task, made all the more problematic by her friends' concerned inquiries about her health. Both Kazuha and Crow had remarked on how pale she seemed, Courage had nearly given himself a heart attack over the cough she tried valiantly to suppress, and she hadn't been able to shake Kaito off for the better part of the day. It was a losing battle, Tear knew, but she didn't want her first day back to be a painful one.

Her body held different ideas, however, and when a wave of dizziness buckled her legs and she futilely made a grab for a tree to keep herself upright, something else caught her instead. Tear trembled, blinking back black spots that clotted her vision, struggled to maintain a semblance of composure, but whoever had caught her was now maneuvering her-- somewhere. She could only be grateful that this person wasn't carrying her, but the strength in that firm grip suggested that would very quickly change if her legs couldn't support her ( ... )

It became something like a ritual (to Gray) and an ordeal (to Chisame) for them to cross paths at least once a day. Gray would eagerly strike up a conversation about magic, and Chisame (who, in the absence in the magic world, was struggling to find some semblance of normality in her daily life) would cynically deflect it.

"So I think we should find an Octohound."

"... A what."

"You know, one of those octopus/hellhound hybrids you were talking about! We could fight it! That's what comrades and neighbors do!"

Chisame could feel herself trembling with the exertion of not snapping and smacking him. "No. They don't. Even if we were comrades, and we're not, they don't fight nonexistent creatures."

"Then they're freaks."

Never had she been more possessed with the need to crush something glass. "Fullbuster--"

Gray grabbed her hand and started dragging her down the beach. "Come on, they probably live near the water. We'll have the advantage of surprise."

She didn't drink because she was an avid fan of alcohol; Judith's reasons for drinkings were mainly as a nod to the company she kept (Terry, Radu, and Haruko foremost among said company) and also because those around her tended to provide entertaining reactions to their drinks after awhile. As of late, it had become one of her favorite pastimes, and she shared a smile with Haruko as they sat together at the bar and calmly sipped their coconuts ( ... )
