The two solutions that come to mind is find old friends in the area FROM school, or go out with your work people to something crazy like a GameWorks or laserquest or something.

The difficulty there is that where I live now isn't where I went to school, and I work in a small office with 3 other people... who I don't specifically want to hang out with outside of work. I've looked on Craigslist and local area websites for interesting groups and gatherings in the area, but I haven't really pursued that avenue much beyond that.

Lauren suggested crashing local college student groups, but we have yet to find interesting ones to crash. >.>

I was down-and-out on the friend list when my parents moved me from my home town. After high school it was hard even with being at college. The huge-giganto boost of friends I got was from going to a convention. Of course I went to an anime one, but I don't suggest that at our age. To find an older crowd try a sci-fi con. People are there to meet people.

Good luck!
