Friday already!?

It seems like that's always how vacation goes. Over before you know it...

I had a good time this week, overall. Monday I went to Universal Studios Hollywood and checked out the CityWalk area (shops and restaurants, no charge to walk around). I ate lunch at Tony Roma's there, and it was pretty good. I was really nervous leaving, because I'm not used to public transit and it was a little overwhelming, but it's not as complicated as it looks. $3 gets you an all day pass, good for the buses and subways.

Tuesday I went a stop farther on the subway, and decided to check out Hollywood. One of the subway stops was Hollywood and Vine, and I thought to myself "I've heard of Hollywood and Vine.. there must be something cool there" Boy, was I wrong. Hollywood Blvd is actually kind of dirty and sleazy. The "walk of fame" (the stars in the sidewalk) looks like it goes on for miles.

After walking for a while, I eventually came to the famous Chinese Theater, and I discovered this whole mall area that was pretty neat. If you want to check out Hollywood Blvd, I suggest Hollywood and Highlands. That's the part you've probably seen on TV and in movies. That's a nice area. I wouldn't venture too far away from there, though.

Wednesday was day 1 of E3, and as such, Marcus and Will went with everybody from work. I decided to just stay in and relax on Wednesday, so I didn't go out. It was a quiet, but relaxing day.

Will took yesterday off, and the both of us went to E3 (I used Marcus's pass, since he had to work). It is truly a sight to see. I'm not sure that it quite lived up to the hyped up vision I was expecting, but it was still very neat. I picked up plenty of swag, though most of it is from companies I've never heard of. I played a few game demos, checked out some tech demos, and watched Will get hit on by a booth babe. It was a good day.

And that brings us to today. I went back to E3 (this time by myself), and I had every intention of checking out Nintendo's new console (which I refuse to name). I went to the hall where Nintendo's booth was, and I followed the line all the way to the end. The first thing I noticed was that the line was huge. The second thing I noticed was that by the time I got to the end, I never once saw it move.

While in line, somebody pointed a camcorder at me and started asking me about what I thought of the console and all that. Then he said that he heard from people in the front of the line that they had been waiting for over 4 hours. It was already slightly after noon, and the show closes up at 4PM, so after doing the math, I realized that there probably wasn't much point in me waiting in line. Instead, I decided to check out other stuff. I won't go into details here, as this post is long enough as it is (if you really want details, leave me a comment), but again, I had a good time.

And now I'm back in apartment, waiting for Marcus and Will to get off work. I hope they're hungry, because I'm starved. I've got my suitcase basically packed and ready to go (swag and all), and I've got a few complementary E3 magazines that I can read on the plane on the way back. I fly out of here early tomorrow afternoon, and it looks like I'm going to have about a 2 and a half our wait in Dallas for my next flight, and should be getting back into Louisville around 11PM. It'll be nice to be back home, but I'm not sure if I'm ready to go back to work.

Good thing I've got another little vacation right around the corner! :)
