you could make your journal 'friends only'
that makes it so only the people on your friends list can read what you've written. to do that, just go to Manage - friends, and change it to friends only.
if you want it to be 'private' as in no one but you can read them, i think you can do that there too, but im not sure.
you can also customize who you want reading your journal, and who you dont.
