Hey, Harry? Kind of a weird question, but-

Why don't you ever make eye contact with anybody? I mean, I've noticed you do with Riza and Thomas, but no one else.

Oh, you noticed that huh? Guess I shouldn't be all that shocked, you do share my bad habit of being very observant.

It...has to do with being a wizard. Those of us who have had sufficient magical training gain a power called the Sight. One of the side effects of the Sight is that if we make eye contact with someone for more than a few seconds, we...well we go into a soulgaze. You ever heard the expression eyes are windows to the soul? Well, in a wizard's case that's quite literal. I see their soul, who they are, who they were, and who they may become, and they see mine. Whatever you see in a soulgaze is the absolute truth, and it is with you forever.

You can probably guess why I try to avoid that.
