Being paid to protect another? This is new. I feel like a mercenary instead of a warrior. Then again, no one places food on my table. Hard to place a price on pride around here.

I was forced to tell myself such things every day before I was employed with Lady Phoebe.

What did you get stuck with? You were not supposed to be forced to do these.

Unlike many of the others here, I have no desire to return to my former life. So... I do not mind it as much as I perhaps should.

I worked retail for a bit. Counter, 'customer service' they call it, but it really means 'emotional punching bag in a uniform'. Now I keep books for Mrs. Broster's flower store, and it is much nicer. ...She is very kind.

Besides, you are good at protecting people, are you not? If I ever wanted for a bodyguard, I would certainly ask you.

You were wronged. Doesn't mean it wouldn't be corrected. Your father was better than that.

Sounds appropriate. In a way, you're a scholar.

You don't need to request, princess.

Protecting others was always what I did. It's usual even if I can't call it enjoyable.

Protecting others out of love and pride is different than for money, but I'm sure you know this.

Still, I hope you're setting down alright?

I've been learning it, yes. Better to bow my head for a while.

Good enough. Things are different, everyone is. But life seems easier.

I am certain we will all eventually end up doing things we aren't necessarily happy with or proud of while we are on this plane. But the times have changed and every good warrior knows how to roll with the punches.

As long as I keep my values, that's good enough. But got to agree, going from a warrior under your guidance to a rich boy? It's worse.

It cannot be too bad. I play-fight with fake warriors in the television on a weekly basis. At least the person you protect is real. Still, I cannot say I exactly miss the war.

You are always welcome to stop by the apartment, though. Talk, dinner, drinks, anything of the sort.

If I laughed or showed amusement. Bad thing, right? ..no, that one I can't miss at all.

Better not offer that too many times.
