there's a special calculator for figuring the exact amounts of lye per amounts of oils used. the % is different for every kind of oil/butter (each takes a different amount of lye to turn it into soap), and you use more than one kind per recipe... Each oil/butter gives different qualities to the soap, so it's a lot of playing around with amounts/%'s to play with what recipes will create what you want. NUMBERS AHHH. lots of variables
