So they're calling it Black Saturday now. :( As of right now, they're saying 84 are confirmed dead and 750 homes burned down.

One of the saddest things to come out of the fires is that famous Australian news broadcaster Bryan Naylor and his wife have been confirmed as dead aswell. :(

it's horrific :( i heard that embers are flying 20kms away from the front and starting new fires! i just can't believe it.

and i heard this morning that they think the fire was deliberately lit! i hope they catch the idiot who did this and charges them with murder!

Apparently it was moving 20km in 4 minutes! How fucking crazy is that? How on earth could you get away from it? The fire front was 100km long! You'd have no hope in hell. :(

I like Mr Rudd's comment about whoever gets caught for lighting these fires should be charged with mass murder, because essentially that's what it is!

what really brought it home for me was the fact that smoke had reached New Zealand! wow.

i'm glad that people have been caught.

I know and the smoke is still flowing through Melbourne. For the last 5 days at least we've had smoke come through all day every day - not really bad but still there and you can still smell it.

Well one guy has been caught and he's only the one that started the Churchill fires and not the major ones.

Yeah all is well here thank goodness. The fires got to the back hills behind Nan's place, so close to her but not close to me thank goodness.
