I'm not sure how many of you know about this, but the Republicans in the Texas House of Representatives and Congress are trying to do some congressional redistricting. the other fucked up part is that this was snuck onto the table in some shady-ass move a few days ago. i got an email about it and phoned my rep.'s office. let's hope we can stop this shit.

they snuck it onto the table to coincide directly with the statewide elections--thus making it a lesser media story. pretty fucking sneaky if i do say so myself. i've already called my rep's office too. :\

I googled Republican Redistricting and came up with about 10,000 good entries. Apparently this is something that is going on all over the country. I don't know if other parties practice this but I have to say that I think they do. It's a valid tactic in what is essentially a "getting your own way" match. The Republican party, however, is the most prolific abuser of said policy.
It's pretty disgusting when you think about it. This is america, and the freedom that that implies is wasted on these people. Why bother expressing my opinion by voting when that opionion is going to overridden by some creative zoning laws. It's just stupid.

This is one of many reasons why proportional representation is a better idea than our current electoral system. http://www.mtholyoke.edu/acad/polit/damy/articles/redistricting.htm That's an interesting essay about it.
