nice post :)

while i'll admit i wasn't too excited about the rehearsal setlist, the first nights setlist was a bit better. still a good portion of songs that i'm not really a fan of (mostly all post-Acthung), but i'm still hoping to score tickets for the Minneapolis show. won't be crushed if i don't, but i know i'd enjoy the show all the same :). it'll be interesting to see if they try and change it up more than the 2-4 songs a night like in '01, i know a bunch of my U2-uberfan friends would be excited about that :)

no matter what their future albums hold, and as little as i enjoy much of their stuff post-Acthung, i'll always consider myself a U2 fan, as you said, for their live show. wish i could say the same about R.E.M. i got into both about the same time, U2 around 1985 or so, REM around 86/87, but while U2's post-Acthung material is better than R.E.M.'s post hi-fi records, the band just doesn't do it for me live at all anymore :(

Yeah, I hear ya Kyle. I got into REM around 1989 or so, but I've never been quite as big a fan of them as I was of U2. I saw them live twice in 2003 and really enjoyed it, but haven't felt the need to see them since. Then again, though I don't own the newest REM album, I'm one of those few-and-far-between people who liked Reveal. ;)

As for U2, I'm far and away most excited to hear Running to Stand Still live, as well as the Boy songs ... An Cat Dubh/Into the Heart, and Electric Co. I hope they change up the setlists too, but I want to hear those!

i didn't get to see REM until Bill left, so i don't have early REM to compare to, but from what i've heard/read/seen, it's just not quite the same. If i'd really enjoyed the shows i saw i might have not thought twice about it, but i couldn't help feel a bit underwhelmed.

though, i did see them last fall on the Vote For Change Tour w/ Bruce, and i don't know if it was the cause, playing w/ a talent like Bruce, or what, but there was definitely a fire there that i didn't see the first 2 shows i saw them in '01.

kinda wish i would have saw their greatest hits tour in '03, have a feeling i would have enjoyed that a good deal.

yeah Electric Co. would be great to hear, no doubt, as well as Running.

and while i can understand peoples complaints about U2 in regards to Bono's ego, etc., it's still annoying, just annoy the music and shut the hell up ;). you don't even have to be a fan of recent U2, but anyone who denies U2's 1980's output is just a god damn retard :)

Oh, I agree 100%. Those people "annoy" the music. ;)
