“Well, let’s go.” You snapped back to reality as Young Su got to his feet, stretching slightly. “The crowd’s kinda dissolved now. Did you have a good time?”

He smiles a little, tilting his head and putting an arm around your shoulders, steering you out of the aisle.

You were thinking quickly, not sure how to say or even imply that you wanted to go backstage. Part of you was too busy marveling at how completely oblivious your friend was to everything that just happened, but most of you was just busy trying not to feel trapped.

“I need to throw up!” You said suddenly, untangling yourself from him and running forwards, pushing past several girls and mumbling apologies, all the while throwing out the word vomit every so often.

It helped with clearing out the crowd and once you managed out into a bit of a clearing, you looked around quickly, thoughts kicking into overdrive. You need to find out a way to go backstage, you needed…

You saw a bunch of girls gathered together, screaming and bit your lip to keep from swearing, realizing that that’s what you had to walk through. A bunch of girls screaming ‘OPPPPPAAAA!”

You were one of those girls, you knew that, but it didn’t stop you from suddenly feeling an irrational sense of resentment. You looked around again, sighing as you realized you had bought yourself some time. Young Su seemed to have been swallowed up by the crowd.

Okay, you had to find some sort of way… You looked around, analyzing the area and your gaze froze on a door. A tall man stood in front of it, looking stern and you knew there was no real way you could possibly get past him. Despite that, you started walking towards him, straightening up and raising your head a little.

And then someone grabbed your wrist and you let out a sharp squeak before a hand was over your mouth, and you were pulled into the girl’s washroom.

You knew you had dressed up too well! Now you were going to be raped or something and-

You bit down sharply on the hand and started to scream when the hand let go before you heard “Yah, EunJung! It’s me!”

You broke off in mid scream, voice cracking and whipped around, eyes wide.

“Yah! You idiot! What do you think you’re doing?!” You snapped before you could help yourself, heart still beating loudly in your ears from the shock and fear of the moment before.

The older boy raised both eyebrows and you quickly caught your breath as blood rushed into your cheeks. Oh my god. You did it again.

You gaped, having no idea what else to say and just blinked dumbly at the other, trying to twist your thoughts together, clenching and unclenching your fists.

“Here I thought you’d be glad to see me.” You heard the amusement in his voice and then your eyes focused, immediately concentrating on the way his eyebrows were arched, only one corner of his lips raised and one hand held up, the one you’d bitten, palm facing you.

You had no idea how to reply. The words refused to come to you. Your mind was completely blank, partially with mortification, partially with just how surreal this situation was.

He took a step towards you and you automatically took a step back. He reached past you and you flinched, not too sure why, and with a soft click, you heard that he’d locked the door.

And then you just stared at him, not sure what to do, eyes widening slightly as something like panic laced your veins and you remembered how your mom told you that “boys will be boys” and you shouldn’t have liked Young Su and oh my god this was a bad idea.

There was a lump in your throat and then Jiyong stepped back, suddenly looking hesitant, wary.

“How was I?”

All your thoughts halted.

You merely blinked at the older one, mouth opening and closing as if you were mimicking a fish, and trying to let the words register, replaying them over nad over again.

“What?” You finally managed, and the way your voice came out was strangled, confused.

“The performance! How was it?” Jiyong looked at you with wide eyes, almost hopeful, and you realized that he was asking for your opinion.

Your opinion.

You didn’t even know how to reply, continuing to just stare at him.

And all of a sudden you were angry. How dare he ask you for your opinion like you mattered to him? If he had cared about your opinion on anything he did he would’ve showed up or something - it’s not like he didn’t know where you lived! What, were you guys friends?

He was some guy, almost 7 or so years older than you, and-

The anger must’ve flickered across your face because the other suddenly looked even more anxious.

Then your phone was ringing, and you jumped again, quickly making a grab for it and flipping it open without a second thought.

“Hello?”

“WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU?” You flinched again, holding the phone away from your ear as Young Su’s voice filled the bathroom, echoing slightly off the walls. “I CAN’T FIND YOU ANYWHERE! ARE YOU OKAY? CAN’T EVEN GET SERVICE IN HERE!”

“Yah, I’ll call you back!” You shouted, holding the phone to your mouth before flipping it shut and making a face.

Something that had been in the air before the phone call-was it tension?-had broken.

Jiyong was now giving you the most unreadable look, just staring at you as you tried to remember what exactly it had been that you were discussing before that phone call.

“Who’s that? Sounded like a guy.” He asked, and you immediately retorted, resisting the urge to roll your eyes,

“None of your business.”

There was a pause, and you wanted to punch yourself in the face repeatedly as Jiyong blinked. Your voice had been sharp, and you remembered the annoyance you felt prior.

“Is he your boyfriend?” Jiyong lowered his voice, still staring at you, and you rolled your eyes this time, dropping the phone back into your purse.

“No, he’s my friend but that’s still none of your business. Who are you to me, anyway?” You were angry and you couldn’t even mask it. What, were you just supposed to let him do whatever he want because he-

….was the leader of one of Korea’s biggest, quickly rising bands…?

You suddenly clapped your hands over your mouth, replaying all of your actions up until that point. This was only the second time you were meeting him, and you were saying and doing and feeling everything wrong. Just moments ago you were-

Jiyong was laughing now, softly, and you couldn’t even tell at first. He brought the hand you’d bitten up to his mouth, chuckling into it and shaking his head a bit.

“I really missed you.” He said after a moment, lowering his hand, and his expression was soft.

And in that moment, all your irrational anger and resentment melted away as your cheeks started burning again.

“You were absolutely amazing up there.” You found yourself replying with, instead of the automatic “I missed you too” that had been on the tip of your tongue.

There was a slight pause as your words hung in the air and Jiyong smiled a bit more widely.

“Thank-“

Your phone went off again, cutting off anything else Jiyong had to say and you merely cringed, pulling it out again and opening it to Young Su, yelling just as loudly as he had before.
